Mary Anne

Can't find anything on a James Hawthorn. There is a John Hawthorn married to a Mary O'Hare in 1888 which would fit with William's birth above. He was a Dock Labourer from Ireland. Sometimes Irish people changed their names so he could possibly be a James by 1923.

If you contact the library local to that address they should be able to do a look up for you on the electoral roll for that year and tell you who was living there - only those of voting age will show.

The local library have sent a lovely reply to say they are looking into the above address, in the meantime after talking to relation we are now thinking William (Stewart?) Hawthorn November? 1889 may have been from Scotland, oh gee that’s another search altogether. Mary-Anne Xx :-S

Hello everyone, after months of research I have finally got hold of his birth certificate, and building my family tree.

I am in need of help again as stuck again on Military records:

William Stewart Hawthorn Born 1889 Mochrum Wigtownshire Scotland, William ended up living in Cheshire and I am wondering if he moved through the Military? And why he lost contact with his family on the farm in Scotland.

I found this Medal Military card, but can’t find any other records to go with it, although I am sure it does belong to my William, can you please help with the information below, you might understand better than I do?

HAWTHORN WILLIAM S, CORPS: RE RANK: SPE? REG NO: 41742 ROLL: MEDAL VICTORY RE/101B18 PAGE 3556

Many WW1 records were lost in WW2 bombings . It may be that his medal card is the only thing that survives .

Late on parade, drunk, obscene language and overstaying his leave

When he enlisted in 1914 gave his occupation as slater bridging and age as 35 years and 4 months

It's rather a leap to insert a second forename.............when there isn't one on the marriage record

Marriages Jun 1923 (>99%)

Hawthorn William Maddocks Birkenhead 8a 1111
Maddocks Ruth Hawthorn Birkenhead 8a 1111

Who witnessed the marriage?

How do you relate to this couple, who produced one daughter?

maryfill74

maryfill74 Report 6 Nov 2012 13:41

yes I have then all in front of me, on his death certificate: born 28th Novenber 1889 mochrum Wigtownshire, on his marriage it does say Father James Hawthorn (deceased)

You are right........ may be some skeletons in the cupboard, it appears William lost contact with his family, but defiantly the same family Xx

Another problem

If that service record is the right person, and it is a big if, then his age does not match that 1889 birth cert
