I agree Sylvia.

I spotted the Rootschat thread whilst googling and saw how much info there was on it.

As most of us know, there are just some relatives who seem to do a disappearing act.

I think that the Canadians can probably suggest nothing else.

We can in fact do nothing more than look on the internet ............. none of us is about to travel around the country visiting record offices in person, for the reason below ..................

I have explained to Ian via pm that one has to know in which province of Canada someone was born / married / died because all such records are maintained by the province. There is no Central registry

......... and in addition there is the 50 / 75 or 80 / 100 year rule before the records can be released into the public record.

everything that has been found so far has been dismissed as already having been found ..... thus very much a waste of time

........... and there are 2 pages of similar on that rootschat thread given on the previous page.

My only suggestion now is that Ian google the following ............

Canada - Vital Statistics

then that he scroll down the lists that result, picking the individual provinces

Access the provincial site, and see if anything can be found

That time-consuming task is something that is best done by Ian ............. not by a helper.

What a shame. I was hoping that William or Robert may have been able to help you.

A couple of the people helping you are in Canada. Don't forget that Canadian records are not all that easy to access because of the 100 year closure period.

Cybthia,

Yes we have done all the checks and also we know about the Fordyces and the Fordyce descendants....But not Alexandriana herself....Where did she end up after 1912. (she would have been aged 20 then)....That is the question.....
Any mention of her on any other trees reveals no further information...
A brick wall.....
Just maybe someone in Canada might read this and come up with the answer....

Ian,

Following Sylvia's suggestion that you look in the trees on this site, you say that you have tried to get in touch with siblings. Have you actually looked at the trees on here?

If you put her name into the Search Trees box above, you will see that there are two other people besides yourself who have Alexandrina in their family. It may be worthwhile contacting the tree owners.

Cx.

It's always worth checking.

Have you searched on ancestry???

There is one Public Family Tree that has Alexandrina ...... of course, I have no idea how accurate the information is!

Could this be sister Lily, arriving as a home child in Canada? Date of birth and port of departure work.

Surname: DUNCAN
Given Name: Lily
Age: 15
Sex: F
Ship: Hesperian
Year of Arrival: 1913
Departure Port: Glasgow
Departure Date: 1913-08-01
Arrival Port: Quebec

But the parents were living until much later so could be unlikely?

Surely a Alexandrina Ann June Campbell Duncan must appear in a Canadian census ...

Can someone please help.

Ian

Ian

Ian Report 13 Feb 2012 23:32

Sylvia....

Yes it is very difficult this one...But Canada is our best chance of finding out about Alexandrina....I have sent you an old photo of her.
One would think with a name Alexandrina Ann Jane Campbell Duncan...it should be straight forward.
If she was still in the UK, it would have been solved by now.

So I'm afraid the search continues...Just need a breakthrough.
Attempts to contact siblings etc have yielded nothing as yet.

Thanks again

got sidetracked for a moment by the fact that there was seemingly another "Ina" Duncan

from fmp .......................

DUNCAN Ina 1893 F 1914 Glasgow Canada Montreal

However, this one seems to have travelled with ................

DUNCAN Margt 1895 F 1914 Glasgow Canada Montreal
DUNCAN Robt Adult M 1914 Glasgow Canada Montreal

so presumably was their daughter and a different Ina

....... because of the following information from the rootschat thread the poster didn't bother to mention:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=v6beniv8janivd0n0s5tnndr04&topic=504143.10

"You talk about Alexandrina (Ina) Ann Jane Campbell Duncan (born 1892) - I knew from a cousin of Ina's (Jean Ingram of Aberdeen, now deceased) that she emigrated to Canada and also her sister Elizabeth (b.1894)."

from other responses on that thread it seems that Alexandrina MAY have travelled with a Mary Duncan (married) and Mary's child on the Grampian, 6th May 1913.

The only other suggestion I have to make is ............

Ian ........ please use the Search Trees function (in the dark green band above) to see whether Alexandrina is in any of the trees on the site.

THEN you can send an internal pm to the tree owner to see if they can help.

As someone on that rootschat thread said, Canada has very strict restrictions on time limits before information on bmds can be released, and it is also under the jurisdiction of the individual provinces, so you have to know which province a person was born, married or died in.

Ian, have you seen this thread on rootschat?

Ian

Ian Report 12 Feb 2012 12:47

Yes Marie, that was my first impression...Although Jessie's birth details on Scotland's People lists her parents as Henry and Elizabeth Duncan...Alexandrina's parents!....But, But...!!!
And what was Alexandrina doing at home 1911 where she would have normally been away working...(Her sisters were at home in the 1911 census as well)....so they would have looked after their mother....

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 12 Feb 2012 12:39

That certainly does help Ian!

Hmm.... Young Jessie could well be Alexandrina's.

Ian

Ian Report 12 Feb 2012 12:38

Thanks "MarieCeleste" and "Potty"....to answer...

Her child and descendants born 1912...we know about and it was said that she had a child prior to 1912...Both born out of wedlock.
Her first child does not appear in the 1911 census either, which makes us suspicious that she either had abandoned that child or was in fact pregnant during the 1911 census.(possible).
Her second child was born late on 1912 and she was to be married to the father....but he found out that she had a previous child and didn't marry her.
They went their separate ways and the child was brought up by HIS parents.

Alexandrinia Ann Jane Campbell Duncan...single and never married took off to Canada apparently....

Her siblings...
Elizabeth Campbell Duncan b. 1894
Henry Duncan b. 1896
Lily Duncan b. 1898
Charles Duncan b. 1900
John Duncan b. 1902
Jeannie Duncan b. 1907
AND INTERESTINGLY JESSIE Duncan b. 1911.

Hope this helps

Ian

Potty Report 12 Feb 2012 12:12

There is only one Alexandrina Duncan of the correct age living in Nigg in the 1911 census on scotlandspeople. If she had two children before emigrating in 1912, at least one of them should be on it with her. I am afraid I do not have credits to view it.

Who were her children and where were they born?
