Find Ancestors

I wondered whether I could ask for some help in finding my great grandfathers, Joseph William Lawrence, birth records. I have a wealth of information for him but can't seem to find his birth.

The details I currently have are as follows:

* Joseph was born around 1882, as I have found his gravestone which says he died at 70 years old on 1st May 1952 in Walsall, Staffordshire.

* Joseph William married Eliza Jane Buckler in Bloxwich, Walsall on 23rd April 1905. I have this marriage certificate where his name is displayed as Joseph William.

* I also have his sons, Robert Lawrence, birth certificate. Again his name is displayed as Joseph William in Walsall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this. I have searched and searched, including name variations but can't seem to dig up anything.

From the marriage cert, what was his occupation and what was his father's name and occupation?

that would make his dob 1895 - welcome to the boards by the way

From the marriage certificate, Joseph William says 'mines' and his father, John Lawrence says 'mines' also.

His actually death date was 1st May 1952. I got it mixed up with another.

Anne, he couldn't have been born in 1895 if he married in 1905 - he would only have been 10!

Rebekah, as Ann pointed out, your dates do not add up. Are you sure you have the correct gravestone?

Have you found him on the 1911 census?

Yes that is Eliza's family.

? So Eliza's surname is BUCKLER not Butler.

? Is that the correct birth for Robert with mmn as Butler

If it is Buckler then there are a further 6 Walsall Lawrence births with mmn Buckler from 1917-1929

Still not finding Joseph William Lawrence though!!

Eliza's name is Buckler, they spelt it wrong on the birth certificate for Robert but not on the marriage certificate (took a lot of digging to make sure it was right lol)

Thank you for the information about the further births, I only have 4 at the moment.

Joseph's father was called John Lawrence but still can't seem to find Joseph's birth either! It really is a mystery I can't seem to solve.

The above census find might fit with safc's find of the baptism in Pemberton, father John but different wife?

It looks good, Bloxwich is where they got married so it's a possilibility.

In answer to your earlier question, no I have never found then on census at all. I can find Eliza's before marriage but never after marriage living with Joseph??
