WDYTYALive Advisor Report 25 Feb 2012 17:14

Thank you again to all who have helped answer the WDYTYALive requests today. It's been another brilliantly successful day and the people who have posted requests have been amazed at the prompt and helpful replies. Only one more day at the WDYTYALive show to go.

We are sorry if not all of the posts have received individual thanks, but we can not tell you how proud we have been to show posters the replies when they have returned to check only a few hours later. Lots of new people have come to see what an amazing resource these boards are.

It is very nice to be thanked but It would also be nice to know what is actually going on there??

After all, you have only posted 20 - 30 posts or so for us to have a look at and we have not been able to REALLY help because of lack of info and 'feedback' !

I cannot imagine that we have been such a great deal of help ??

If you are showing them 'past threads' then that would be a different matter - there are some 'fantastic' finds which have been discovered on here.

Hi Dea - Feedback appreciated.

We have been showing people how the boards work by showing them past threads, and then posting a question with them and showing them how to find it on their own computer at home. Some people have stayed around or come back and we have been able to ask them for further details, but other people head off and will be checking their post from home. They will log in using their own log in but will notify you that they were the original poster if they need to answer any questions in order for you to help.

I hope this clears things up a bit.

Also, although you may not think you are REALLY helping because you aren't getting all of the information you need, what we are demonstrating is how willing and knowledgeable our members are. Hopefully this will encourage people to turn to the boards when they get stuck and maybe really have an impact on some of their family history.

Thanks - the 'past threads' should have much more of an impact on them that our 'efforts' on the new threads that they have posted !

I wish you luck!

I agree, looking at selected past posts should give people an excellent idea of what can be done.

Personally haven't been able to help because of different time zone.

When I first joined the boards were fuller and faster than today all the time, and we still coped. I have always advocated "show and tell" as the best way to demonstrate how it all works
' When you get back to the office you all need to discuss how to promote the site, I've forgotten how long ago I suggested a video for new users
and others have asked why not programs about ordinary people tree building?

If they have to sign in under their own name, do they have to scroll through the threads to find their own?

I have not noticed any returning since the show...have there been any?

SylviaInCanada Report 26 Feb 2012 03:49

I don't see any other way that scrolling through the boards to find the WDYTYA threads, and then trying to find your own.

Sylvia - typing in the surname being searched for in the keywords box finds them

Strange how one member of the GR Team manages to post their request on the boards 3 times ;-)

Wonder what excuse they have for that problem :-)

Ryan, as you found this, would you like to find your duplicate requests in order to remove them, please? :)

MaureeninNY

They are "outta there" I would think.

(people milling around untangling things that -oh gosh-look it's Ryan and his laptop together again.)

Kind regards,
Maureen

That's an idea Maureen - WDYTYL !!! - Why do you think you laugh ???

There MUST have been some really funny moments that could be shared !!!

Particularly when the 'unknown' person ran orff with the 'special laptop' !!!

P.S. - I have always wanted a laptop- I can pm you my address if you have one to spare !!! ;-)
