Hi

Can anyone help solve this mystery please.

My Gt Gt Grandfather was John Broomfield/Bromfield ( Sawyer)born 1820 in either Prees shropshire or Audlem cheshire depending on what he felt like saying.

His father was John Broomfield/Bromfield c1796 his mother was Catherine Humphreyson 1796 to 1865.

I have found both on all Census.

My problem is that I have John and Catherine's children listed as
Thomas 1817 John 1821 (my Gt Gt Grandad), Richard 1833,Fanny 1837,Harriett 1843.You will notice that there is a gap in births between John 1821 and Richard 1833 which seems a bit strange.

I have now received an email from a lady overseas who says that there was another sibling George born 1830 who married a Sarah Phillips in 1859.
she has a copy of his marriage certificate which states that his father was John Broomfield (Sawyer).
So she has presumed that his father was my Gt Grandad x 3, and that John Grandfather x 2 was her George's brother.

The problem we are both having is that neither of us can find George Brooomfield/Bromfiled prior to his marriage to Sarah, we have him on all other census.
On some of the Census George states that he was born in Audlem.

Can anyone please find George Broomfield/Bromfield on the 1851 or 1841 Census please.

Rgds

Cheryl.

Have you tried Grandparents?

Could he have been staying with a maternal relative?

From this birth reg it looks as if he and Sarah were together before marriage:

Births Jun 1852 (>99%)
Broomfield Jane Phillips Wolstanton 6b 106

In 1851, Sarah is living (unmarried) with her parents and son Thomas in Chorlton, Staffs. George must be somewhere nearby.

What about this one on 1851?? - He is in Wolstanton (same area as Sarah).

Remember, these entries on the census were, I believe, copied down from other sheets.

Interestingly, the person below George has the birth place of Audlem, Cheshire !! - Could the entry have been copied down incorrectly?

LEESE, William Head Unmarried M 68 1783 Farm Bailiff Gnosall Staffordshire
BETTANY, Mary Servant Widow F 70 1781 House Keeper Gnosall Staffordshire
BROMFIELD, George Servant Unmarried M 25 1826 Agr Lab Audley Staffordshire

Hi Dea

I dont have the marriage certificate its lady from overseas that has it.

But she says that its got George's age as 29 his father as John Broomfield (Saywer) and a Thomas Broomfield as a witness.
Thomas was an elder brother of My Gt Grandad x 2.

So it does all tie in, I havent got the Marriage certificate because until she emailed me I didn't have George on my tree.
