On the other thread Alfred's father's occupation is possibly Insurance Clerk but apparently the writing is difficult to read. |

Hi have now received marriage cert for Alfred Matthew William Hedges May and Minnie Rose Lough, on this cert it says that his father's name was Matthew William May, he was deceased when my grandparents marriage took place in 1911 Alfred was in a West Riding battalian so was he born in Yorkshire, still can't find any details, where did the Hedges come from was it his Mother's maiden name who knows I certainly don't |

Could this be him and then changed his name.Seeing as no exact birth is showing up and 1889 ties in with death record. |

It looks like they had three children, two in Hampshire and one in Halifax W Yorkshire, he also served with a W Yorks corp |
