Thanks again Det. It does seem strange that there could be 2 William Rivers Dunnett but I suppose they could be related in some way.
I think I found a William Dunnett on 1851 census living in Chorlton which would tie in with 1841 census but I don't have a subscription so couldn't look it up

The only 'useful' info from the 1823 marriage posted earlier, to Ann Sophia Jackson, is that William Rivers Dunnett is 'from the parish of St Faiths in the City of London'. This doesn't necessarily mean that he was born there.

Witnesses were E Jackson, T? S? Jackson and Sam possibly Sweet. Not sure about that, but certainly not Dunnett.

A later generation (NOT your William Rivers Dunnett) has this baptism.

William Rivers Dunnett
Gender: Male
Birth Date: abt 1839
Christening Date: 15 Sep 1839
Christening Place: Bealings Parva, Suffolk, Eng, Suffolk, England
Father's Name: Philip Dunnett
Mother's Name: Sarah Anne

It seems strange that the same combination of names has reoccured in a different part of the country.

On familysearch.org, there are quite a few Dunnett records in Suffolk, but nothing obvious for your ancestor.

Thanks for all the help so far.
The information I have managed to gain is:
William Dunnett b1801
Wife Ann (Sophia Jackson) b 1801
Son Edwin Owen Dunnett B 1827 d1885
Wife Adelaide Elizabeth Ann Champ b1831 d 1896
Son William Alexander Dunnett b 1862 d 1937
Wife Lilian Nix b1862

Sources:
1841 Census
1881 Census
Marriage Cert Edwin Owen where his occupation is A........ly Clerk.

I'm intrigued by the fact that William Rivers(1801) originally described as a Gentleman becomes an accountant by 1841.

Probate administration might be useful
Thanks Lindy

No luck, I'm afraid !!!

I don't know why I didn't think about the missing records earlier as 99% of 'my lot' are from Salford & Manchester areas and I am always having trouble with them on 1851

Have to go out for a while now but will see if I can come up with anything later.

Both Edwin and Adelaide have Probate/Administration available from the Calendar, IF required.

Edit - good luck then Dea! its in your hands now ;-)

There are other records available for Edwin and Adelaide, but Lindy may already have them.

Dea

Dea Report 20 Mar 2012 11:13

Do you know Det - I had just this very minute thought of that !

I know a site where you can see some of the missing ones and can sometimes work them out - I will go and see if I can find anything !

Known problems with 1851 census - Water damage during storage

2223 Lancashire Manchester - Salford
2224 Lancashire Manchester - Salfrod

So unless the surname has been poorly transcribed, its possible that the Dunnett records were amongst those damaged.
