Find Ancestors

Hi All,
I am trying to trace Stanley Dare, Born Hanley, Staffs 1879, died leeds1938.
I can find him only in the 1911 census, he dos'nt appear in any earlier census or in the births. Can anyone suggest where else I might look please ?

No birth in that name.
May have adopted Dare later in life if born before mother married
What was his mother's name ?

I do not have either parent for stanley dare, I did ask for help with Jean & Margaret Dare they were his daughters & yes Reggie you did help me with them.
I have found the 1911 census & his marriage to Elizabeth Jefferies but I can't find any record of him earlier,after his marriage he seems to have moved around a bit, Married in Notts, 1st child born in Lancs, two daughters born in Glasgow, Son born in Salop & he died in Leeds, but nothing before 1911 census. Strange.

So what was his Father's name from the marriage certificate?

Just seen you said you had neither parent - buy the marriage certificate, it prevents confusion and guessing.

Very odd. Unless 2 Stanley Dares were going around having "True love Reaney" tattooed on their right forearms-this fellow on FMPast is only 18 (or so) in 1906. I can't make out the next of kin-Polly Ball or Batt (sister) address unknown.

Must be the same Stanley as he was discharged from the Army in WW1 because of Flat feet and this is also recorded in the 1906 record

I cannot find any Dare family born in or rediding in Hanley or similar names or Polly or Stanley.

Perhaps Brian could check around on Scotlands People for Polly?

Cringing a bit here-but for me Polly is also May Ann. (I know-there are a gazillion alternatives....).

Polly can also be Margaret (& a gazillion others as you say Maureen) but one of his daughters was called Margaret.

I did a free search on Scotland's People and nothing came up ........

Looked for Polly Ball and Polly Dare.

On some of his military records it says Polly was in Glasgow (as said above) and that is where he enlisted in 1914 - coincidence?
