I have been looking into (and filling in) my family tree on & off for the past year or so. At the moment, I am trying to trace my dad's side of the tree (my surname etc).
I have gotten as far as my great grandfather Charles Henry George Hebbard (born in Poplar, London, in 1911 & died c1973) who married Caroline Graham in 1940.
Now, I am trying to gather information on my great grandfather's parents. As far as I know, his father - my great great grandfather - also goes by the same name: Charles Henry George Hebbard (I think he was born c1875 & died c1961) But I am not sure.
If anyone could help me in any way, and fill in the missing pieces, then I would be most grateful : ) Thankyou.

Have you got the birth and marriage certificates for your great-grandfather so that you can check exactly what has happened.
Have you also found them in the censuses, so we do not spend time looking for information that you already have?

I have not yet any hard copies of birth/marriage/death certificates - the only information that I have been able to go by is what my family (i.e Nan & Grandad) have told me and although, they too are not absolutely sure.
I have only been able to look into the census records on GenesReunited and have found my great-grandfather in the birth records but, these do not show his parents full details (only his mother's maiden name which is Popperwell - who I believe to be Caroline Popperwell born c1875).
This is however, all the information that I have come across.

I'm a little confused by them though (Sorry, I'm a partial beginner : S)
Also, I'm not sure if it could be possible that these surnames change as you go back further? - From what my grand-parents have said, they only know the names by Hebbard (a.r.d) - not sure about the e.r.d variation - hebberd?); Popperwell (e.r) - not sure about the l.e - popplewell or the o.r variation - popporwell?).
I found out yesterday, by my grand-parents, that my great-grandfather Charles Henry George Hebbard b.1911 - d.1973 (the son of the Charles who I've asked your help for) was in the rag trade therefore, it is possible that the information posted in one of the replies above (about my great-great-grandfather Charles Henry George Hebbard b.c1888) was a metal trader??
I have however, not come across the name Debney in my relations as of yet??
