Wow, that was unexpected! So Croft was actually his mother's surname! Well what a surprising lot this has turned out to be! ;-)

Found Emma Eliza'a birth in NSW - amazed since I had given up on ever knowing her maiden name!

Also, a match in a GR tree for George DOBELL so have sent a msg. Plus a tree online showing all the other DOBELL chn. George was born prior to his mother's marriage in 1839, so that is why he is really CROFT, not DOBELL.

Just so you know, George & Emma Eliza's daughter Alice married my grt grandfather - she was his first wife and died aged 33 in childbirth with their 5th child (who also died). The woman who then helped looked after him and his young children ended up marrying him and having lots more children (6!) - she was my grt grandmother! My mum was close to her, and I think Alice's presence was always strongly felt in the family (in fact, the 3 of them were interred together!), so it is lovely to know so much more about Alice's family.

Can you please see if Rachel WILLIAMSON's daughter with James FERGUSSON also went to the USA? Her name was Louisa Hypatia FERGUS[S]ON and she was born in Benalla, Victoria in 1883.
