[addy=140 St Louis - just 1 block from, and parallel to, the St Lawrence R
Jornalier=Labourer - (the literal translation would be day labourer)
Chemin=road, but might include railroad]
The census was supposed to reflect the status on 1 June 1911, but it would be a week or 2 later before they got to page 24.
Evenso, a 1 y.o. cannot be born in Sept 1910 - either believe the age or the year - depends on how question was answered - clearly can't rely on enumerator's arithmetic.
Unlike the UK, the Canadian census was done by answering questions at the house.
In the UK, forms were distributed beforehand, then picked upafter census day, when help would be given completing them when needed.
This wouldn't have worked in Canada. Although Canada seems to be more literate. it's the distances that decide it.
In the UK, they had a limit of 15 miles or 200 houses for 1 enumerator, so he could comfrtably drop the forms off in 2 days at worst, and 1 morning in cities.
I've seen Canadian enumeration districts out west that exceed 500 sq miles.

The Lachine rapids are a series of rapids in the St Lawrence off the SE corner of the Ile de Montreal.
They create standing waves you can surf on, although I suspect that wasn't too popular in 1911.
The Lachine Canal bypasses the rapids - it's 15km long and cuts off the corner.
The town of Lachine starts at the SW (upstream) end of the canal, and continues upstream along the river.
House #s increase as one heads W, so a # like 140 would be near where the canal leaves the land and heads into the river between breakwaters.

If, instead of doing the search at Margee's attestation URL, you take the search help link, then you can see how to buy copies of John's WW1 service record.
There are also links there to the war diaries of the 3rd battalion, and the 1st brigade and 1st division (its higher formations).

There's also a french newspaper report here. Don't know how good your french is but it says his mother had given him a penny to buy candy at a restaurant which was only a few doors away from their house when he disappeared.
