Phillippa - is that your tree on Ancestry that has Dorothy Lilian Start's mother as Mary Stevens born 1908?

Yes that's me.
I'm not actually sure if that's right, as I can't confirm through Dorothy's birth record. I managed to find a James Start (born 1933 - The same year I know her brother james was born) Who's mother was a Mary Stevens... But I'm not even sure if James was born in england or in India like Dorothy... So it could be completely wrong...

So the certificate will definately have her parents names on then?

It will have her father's name and occupation on (providing he was known - you always have to allow for illegitimacy). It can also be very useful if witnesses turn out to be family members. It wouldn't usually name her mother.

You can order certificates online from GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ (it costs nothing to register, certificates cost £9.25 inc p&p - don't use other sites than can be a rip-off)
