Hi Lima, if you don't have a sub to Ancestry you can search the trees and contact owners on their sister site Mundia http://www.mundia.com/gb/

Exactly,Barry!

Just a note to Lima-I think you can log in to Mundia using whatever username etc you used to use on Ancestry.

Just had a look at that 1920 US census and Percy's wife's name is actually Edith. Here they are in 1910:

1910 United States Federal Census
Name: Edith Howard
Age in 1910: 27
Birth Year: 1883
Birthplace: Scotland
Home in 1910: Barre, Worcester, Massachusetts
Race: White
Gender: Female
Immigration Year: 1907
Relation to Head of House: Wife
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: Percy Howard
Father's Birthplace: Scotland
Mother's Birthplace: Scotland
Neighbors:

Household Members:
Name Age
Percy Howard 39 [28] - Weighing Clerk in a Woollen Mill
Edith Howard 27
Davis Howard 4 (this is actually Doris)
Horace Howard 3
Vernon Howard 1 6/12 [1]

Adeline

Adeline Report 2 Jun 2012 15:54

The Percy born in London in 1882 to James and Ann died in the same year but a son born in 1883 who is the one in the 1891 census was named Percy too.

A Howard tree on Ancestry gives Odella's birthplace as Ireland.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 2 Jun 2012 15:55

But her birthplace is Scotland per the 1910!

Is this the Percy who is supposed to have died?

London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906
Name: Percy Howard
Record Type: Baptism
Birth Date: 1 Aug 1882
Baptism Date: 25 Aug 1882
Father's Name: James Howard < Platelayer
Mother's name: Ann Esther Howard
Parish or Poor Law Union: Hampstead St Saviour
Borough: Camden
Register Type: Parish Registers

Address - 3 Kingsford Street.

EDIT - yes found death record.

This is the baptism of Percy who survived:

London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906 about Percy Howard
Name: Percy Howard
Record Type: Baptism
Birth Date: 29 September 1883 <<<
Baptism Date: 19 Oct 1883
Father's Name: James Howard - Railway Porter
Mother's name: Ann Esther Howard
Parish or Poor Law Union: Hampstead St Saviour
Borough: Camden
Register Type: Parish Registers
Address still 3 Kingsford Street

Note the birthdate - the WW2 registration on page 1 is the wrong Percy.

Looks Like its the wrong Percy Howard! His parents were definitely James Howard and Ann Hester Foster.

Just to know...what did you mean by:
" I think they just got married before they went off to the States.I think they travelled with another coulpe as I have seen a photo.."

Maureen :-S

Lima100 Report 2 Jun 2012 16:17

I have seen a photo of them with another couple. Pretty sure it was just after they arrived in the States. He sent the photo to his mum back in England.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 2 Jun 2012 16:22

Lima - do you know for definite that the couple in the 1920 census (and 1910 that I've posted) is definitely your Percy and not the one born in Bradford?

Lima100

Lima100 Report 2 Jun 2012 16:22

Doesn't look as if any of the trees on Ancestry have any further info re his line. They must have just disappeared!!! I think the 1920 and 1930 census posted are the Bradford Howards!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 2 Jun 2012 16:31

I agree, I don't think any of those US records are for your Percy. This WW1 record confirms that the Percy married to Ethel (wrongly transcribed in 1920 as Odella) is the one born in Bradford:

World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
Name: Percy Howard
City: Chicopee
County: Hampden
State: Massachusetts
Birth Date: 24 Mar 1882
Race: White
FHL Roll Number: 1685170
DraftBoard: 0

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 2 Jun 2012 16:35

So do we start over from scratch?

I would strongly recommend ignoring those Ancestry trees, they're not reliable.

Lima100 Report 2 Jun 2012 16:46

I have just found a post card from Percy with RMS Luciana on the front dated 18th May 1906. The card addressed to his sister said arrived safe and well will write a long letter soon. Your loving brother Perce.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 2 Jun 2012 16:46

No need to be sorry at all Lima - it's easy to go down the wrong path when there's two blokes with the same name and very similar ages.

Let's check out Barry's find ......

EDIT - looks like you've confirmed it!

That looks promising. Perhaps he stayed in and around New York if he was planning to visit his friend there.
