Andrew - thanks so much for that .... I think the Immigration year rules out "my" Adeline Head, but it was worth a shot. I'm grateful to you.
Cheers! Gill

EDIT: Cailor / Tailor / Taylor .... maybe coincidence, probably not considering the occupation! Definitely worth pursuing,

Thanks again Andy!

Choccy - no, that's the same Adeline ... she was back from the trip in time for the 1911 census! But apparently she never stopped talking about it when she was young!

Thanks to GB and Choccy for the "incoming" information. I've also just found an English "Adeline Hede" with the right date of birth in the 1910 US census for New York, so I might be able to work out some approximate dates of stay from that. Just another piece of the jigsaw!

Thanks to both. ... Gill

Would someone mind looking up the "Immigration & Travel" on Ancestry for me please - I have found a couple of references (in New York Passenger Lists and UK Incoming Passenger Lists) but don't have a sub to view, so would appreciate any details that can be found.

According to a family story, my great-aunt, Adeline Head (born Windsor in 1890 and living in Eton at the time), went on a business trip to New York sometime around 1910. I believe she was a stenographer and was accompanying a family friend - possibly called Metcalf/Metcalfe from Lancashire who was something to do with textiles.

Any details of dates, ships, how long she spent there, etc. would be really interesting - especially to my 94-yr-old father who knew Adeline very well and who passed the story on to me!

Thanks - and regards to all helpers!
..... Gill
