Hi Marieceleste, yes that's him, his name is spelt incorrectly on the memorial and I have requested a change, it is spelt Lawrence and not Laurence. I think I will have to go with what I have got, his parents are Henry and Rebecca, just can't pin him dowm on the 1891 census, did they conduct a census abord ships?

Keith, what do you mean it's spelled LaWrence and not LaUrence?

The CWGC record I posted is spelled LaWrence (but they have Nancy as LaUrence)

Had you already seen that record?

yes I have seen it, but all family records I have spell the name, Lawrence, the Tower Hill Memorial team are to change the spelling in the near future. Marriage certificate and nancy's death certificate all show Lawrence.

It would have been helpful if you'd let us know about that record earlier on as it would have been a useful reference.

I see they must have changed it as it is showing Lawrence now.

maybe but it would not alter the fact that he is missing from the 1891 census, as he is known as Lawrence on the 1901 census, sorry for any confusion.

No it wouldn't have altered that Keith, but it would have affirmed that you were on the right track!

Good find Wendy - that ties into the death and confirms the line.

Glad to be of help. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help here in Nottingham.

thanks everyone, think it confirms that there is no record of him in the 1891 census.
