Going back to the 1871 census posted. Some employers did not like their staff to get married which is why she probably lied about it.



How much census research have you done Janice ?

The 1881 and 1891 clearly show children listed as Pitt but you made no mention of them in your request. Also on the census are children with the surname of Dodd and again not mentioned..

Your request was very misleading as you suggested you had no knowledge of any marriages or children.

It is wrong to have a go at members who are trying to help you especially when the full picture is not given in the request.

Please think before you hit the submit button as to whether or not you have included enough info for members to help you.

Please read your original post, Janice, then tell us why you didn't say that you KNEW her first married name.

No-one obvious jumps out as a married male of that age without his wife in 1971 in Gloucestershire

EDIT - using http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/BirthSearch.aspx (which Reggie gave you) there are no PITT births 1870-1880 with mmn of Ratcliffe or anything similar that might have been transcribed incorrectly.

So unless a birth wasn't registered, its probable that they didn't have a child.
