fryer Report 21 Jul 2012 05:16

fredericks and kathleens children are,
Percival, Mervyn, Maurice and Dulcie, all born in india (per above)
(i believe frederick and kathleen died in india)

mervyn(my great grand parent), married a Gladys Belleiit, there children were Bertram, Ronald, Maurice and Kathleen, all born in India but the left india (late forties??) and settled in england ( bertram, then moved to inverness - scotland and remarried)
I have been informed that Mervyn had a 2nd wife (May) who was last living in St Ives, Cambridge, UK (i haven't persued this thread yet)

I would like to get maurice edwins war records, this could mean that family records are hazzy (as i believe the F.W.Fryer of burma had a different wife, than names known)

Thanks for the efforts thus far, it has provided some previously unknown dates for events

There are more than 100 pages of records on ancestry for Maurice Edwin

That's an awful lot of someone to send to you .................. each page of each record has to be sent separately. In addition, there is the fact that sending so much information to a non-member all at once could possibly affect their membership with ancestry.

May I suggest that you take out a 2 week free trial with ancestry, and download that information yourself?

You have to provide ancestry with a credit card number ......... so be sure to notify them by about day 10 that you do not wish to continue with the trial, or else you could run the risk of them actually taking the money.

There are 3 apparently separate sets of records

British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920 about Maurice Edwin Fryer

Age at enlistment: 23
Birth Parish: Trichinopoly India
Document Year: 1919

You should also realise just how very lucky you are to have so many pages!! The pages ARE damaged and burnt, and difficult to read in places.

Only about 30% of the records for WW1 servicemen survived WW2, due to bombs and fires on or in supposedly secure safe storage places.

fryer Report 21 Jul 2012 23:20

Frederick William Fryer b(1862)c
had 4 children (per above)
Percival b(1892)
Mervyn b(1893)
Maurice Edwin b(1895)
Dulcie B91896)
Frederick William jnr (appears to have died in the same year as birth) b1899

Mervyn (my great grandad) married Gladys Vera Belletti
they had 4 children
Bertram
Ronald
Maurice b(1926)
Kathleen

These children emigrated from India to England (1950s)?
And as far as i know they all died in England
Mervyn had a 2nd wife (May) who was last known living in St Ives, Cambridge, England - i have not attempted to check if there were any children to this relationship.

Maurice Edwins nok being frederick fryer (govner of burma), isnt an avenue i took note of as the Frederick fryer of burma wifes name isnt kathleen

cheers

I'm sorry

you seem to demolish every suggestion put to you

This suggest to me that you have certain "knowledge" which you are unwilling to re-consider, and are also unwilling to accept anything that may be opposite to what you "know".

I'm presuming that this "knowledge" is family lore.

I also note, by googling, that you have been asking these same questions on other sites (eg ancestry) for at least the last couple of years.

I am presuming that you either got no response from those other sites, or responses which did not suit you.

I am therefore unwilling to attempt to help you any further.

Andrew, you rather curtly responded to Sylvia...

Maurice Edwins nok being frederick fryer (govner of burma), isnt an avenue i took note of as the Frederick fryer of burma wifes name isnt kathleen

Well...try reading the posts in this thread...I posted

Maurice Edwin gave F.W Fryer of Burma as nok on WW1 army records in 1919

followed by:

Kathleen's death

spouse: Kathleen Clara Fryer
name: Kathleen Clara Fryer
gender: Female
burial date: 01 Apr 1913
burial place: Calcutta, Bengal, India
death date: 31 Mar 1913
age: 44
birth date: 1869
marital status: Married
spouse's name: Frederick William Fryer
indexing project (batch) number: B75045-1
system origin: India-EASy
source film number: 527899

So in 1919 - the date of Maurice Edwin's records - and I assume you do not deny this is YOUR Maurice Edwin? - Kathleen had been dead for six years. So it is entirely feasible that the F.W. Fryer in Burma IS your F.W. Fryer and has remarried.

Sylvia
I am true sorry, i didnt want to sound ungrateful, and you are right my family knowledge is lore, and i dont know how good it is.
I am a sceptic by nature, and dont know how to think outside the circle until it is blatently pointed out to me.

Heyjude has placed a scenario which i hadnt even thought about.

I will try and followup on the F.W.Fryer remarrying scenario.

Again SORRY to all who have assisted, i dont mean to offend

Does anyone have advice how i might Locate the parents of Frederick William Fryer, whose fathers name is listed as William on the marriage certificate to kathleen

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 22 Jul 2012 16:45

Thank you for your posts....it is easy to come to these boards with preconceived thoughts :-)

I don't know enough about Indian records to be able to advise. I assume that the marriage certificate must be available (somewhere) and that it would be similar to the English one given that it was part of the British Empire at the time.

Obviously another angle is, if he did remarry in Burma (or before he moved to Burma) that his father would be on that certificate.

Good Luck

Jude

Andrew

Thank you for that

One of the things that helpers on these boards do is to think outside the box!

and I'm afraid it seemed rather obvious to me that if a person is named as NOK on the service records, then that person is probably closely related ....... in fact, one of the records did have "Father" noted before the name.

....... and then, if a person with that same name turns up, but with a young wife and 2 young children, then it makes sense that he might well have remarried, and begun a second family. .............. so that avenue does seem to need exploring.
