George - you still need to buy her marriage certificate to Michael Wynn. When you have that you will be able to confirm or otherwise that her father was John. Until then I feel we are all surmising and going round in circles

Sorry I have not been able to reply to you sooner but I have been trying to find out information from messages sent to me, here is a start.
Leah Dent baptism,Auckland dis,Location,Hamsterly,Church St James,
23May 1824 Leah Dent of StoneChester,daughter of John(farmer)and
Isabella Dent this matches one previous message.StoneChester is the name of two farms in Co Durham,High StoneChester and Low StoneChester
both farms are still there and on the internet with photos of Low StoneChester where I think Leah Dent lived because it is very close to
Hamsterly I have looked for John Dent on internet and all that I can find are lead miners from Stanhope area with no Isabella on cenus.
Michael Winn Grandson living with Leah Palmer 1861 was born latter part of 1860 at Merrington Grange Co Durham.I have not been able to Leah Dent on 1841 cenus but there is a Leah Palmer living in Woolwich London not born in area a wild shot Michael Wynn 1881 cenus widow living in Ovington Yorkshire.
George Coussins married Mary Dent 14 May 1831 Stainton in Cleveland York Mary Dent born Romaldkirk Yorkshire there are two many Mary Dents born in Romaldkirk to make connection of parents.
George Coussins blacksmith went on to be a farmer.
Thank you George

George...this tangled web has intrigued me greatly....

I think there are two certificates you need to buy. Leah's marriage to Michael Wynn and Leah Wynn's birth certificate as suggested by GB.

Here are some notes I have made....

Whilst marriages for John Brough Palmer in 1843 to Leah and 1856 to Isabella are widely reported elsewhere there is no evidence for either of these. However, the date in 1843 is very specific so just where has this come from?

Ester Wynn on 1861 census with Leah Palmer and William on 1861 census with Michael Wynn were probably twins

Births Jun 1854 (>99%)
WYNN Esther Darlington 10a 15
WYNN William Darlington 10a 15

In 1851 Michael is with wife Ann. An Ann Wynn dies December 1860

Deaths Dec 1860 (>99%)
Wynn Ann Auckland 10a 75

In 1861 census with Leah is Michael Winn "grandson" aged 5 months. Did Ann die in childbirth?

Could Ann be Leah's sister?

Possible death in Marylebone for Isabella (last children born there) in 1864

Leah Coussins is sister of Isabella and Dorothy and is on one census with both of them and parents George and Mary.

My guess is that John and Leah were not together very long - no children in 1851 census which would be unusual and that shortly after that census in Kingston upon Thames she returned to Durham alone.

John and children - and Dorothy - all AWOL in 1871

Don't believe everything you read elsewhere without hard evidence...come back to us when you have the certs! :-)

Buy the cert to see how she describes herself

Death of Leah in 1850 not possible because she is on census with John in 1851 (not to say the ones wefind in 1861 and 1871)!!

I must admit I'm not too sure what Leah's maiden name really is! Hopefully, the marriage cert will have a father's name.....

One reason for thinking she did not marry John Palmer is that she marries Michael Wynn as Pearson Dent. So assuming they had not divorced....

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 21 Jul 2012 19:05

This is your best bet for her father

But back to Shirley's post - get the marriage certificate to Michael Wynn

This will give you her father's name and occupation. You can at least then try and find them in 1841

It is a very tangled web indeed .All the information I have been sent is correct and I got most of it off the census she did marryJohn Brough Palmer supposedly in 1843 (look up his family born 1826 South Shields)And married Michael Winn 1871 again from Durham Registras.Thank you very much for all the information you have all sent me but it is her birth parents I would like to find if at all possible. Thanking you all once again

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 21 Jul 2012 18:09

Not got much of a clue as to what's going on here :-S

She dies as Leah Wynn in 1875. The 1871 census is months before she married Michael Wynn but had obviously known/been with him for over ten years. The Michael "grandson" aged 5months in 1861 is the adopted son aged 10 in 1871. And I have found Isabella with her (I think) widowed father and a brother William in 1861. I assume Ester was another daughter of Michael but can't find her after 1861 census.

And John B it would seem was living with his wife Isabella and his future wife Dorothy - who if the census is correct must have been Isabella's sister. But I cannot find a marriage to Leah or to Isabella.....A Palmer tree on A has marriage (unsupported) to Leah on 15 April 1843, to Isabella Coussens in 1856 (also unsupported) and finally to Dorothy in 1873.

Another tree has a witness to the marriage to Dorothy as Leah Coussens!

A right tangled web!

But back to Shirley's post - get the marriage certificate to Michael Wynn
