Hi, I'm trying to find a marriage record for a George Hambidge. From the 1871 census I have his year of birth as 1811, Eaton Hastings, Berkshire. I know he married a Rachel but I cannot find any marriage record or details of her maiden name.

Their first child born I believe was a Lousia Hambidge born 1847

Yes it does look odd Rachel is down as a widow and his housekeeper.

May be they didnt go on to marry

I wonder if perhaps she was married to his brother then became a widow, hence having the same surname and she then went onto have children with George? Mystery

Looks like she was a live-in housekeeper in 1851 and eventually took on the roll of wife but ....Maybe they never married.

I doubt that Louisa's birth will show Rachel as her mother.

umm think you are probably right, only the certificate will tell me for sure I guess so I'm going to get on and order it.

Sorry just thinking, is anyone able to provide me with details of the 1841 census, I can see just by searching the Son James 1841 that he is 0 on the 1841 census, would like to show what it acually states on there
