HeyJude B4Beatles, and Gins,

And I thought it was only women that lied about their age. LOL.

Thanks everyone for your help.

WW1 soldiers/sailors/airmen etc seem to be a good possibility for creative ages. Some lied because they were too young to enlist. Maybe some lied because they were too old. In Walter/Edgar's case - by 1914 he would really have been 34. But in 1911 was war a possibility??

Have we found any military records?

Good point Jude

My mom did though. She got her pension through from teaching....and it 'came early' so she told dad!

She was a bit of an 'inigma'.....born before her time

IF the Portsmouth 1911 is him, is it possible that he lied about his age and said he was 5 years younger than he actually was? It definitely says 26

So can you find Walter in 1911 Tempest please, he died between 1959 and 1961 if that helps

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 Aug 2012 10:53

shirley
that was why I was having difficulty finding birth, I was looking between 1878 and 1885..I thought it would be easy to find as I wouldn't have thought there would be too many with that name.

Thanks for helping

Still wondering how the connection is made to Edward and Maria being his parents when his age is 26 in 1911 so makes his birth c1885 ??

Gee

Gee Report 10 Aug 2012 10:43

There is a Norfolk birth in 1880 on Ancestry, not showing on Freebmd
