Flip - it was the way I was leaning to....the child in 1901 HAS to be Annie Ellen ..there is an Ada born in 1896 but that was in Lewes.

Flip Report 26 Aug 2012 12:56

Yes Jude, I agree. I think the original assumption for birth is wrong but we've missed picking up on the fact that it came from the 1901 census with nothing to back it up.

Lets hope the marriage cert doesn't take too long!

Mavis
sorry just saw your latest post. yes Joseph thomson's middle name was Skinner ( found that on the children's home documents). He was also from Scotland and was married to someone else apparently at the same time as my grandmother....but I thought it was someone in Scotland I believe...but not 100% sure and yes he was jailed for two years for bigamy and again..I do not know what happened to Ada at that time but I know she did visit my dad in the children's home.... you are amazing at this...thankyou for all this information...you definately have the right joseph thomson. Although my main interest is Ada Weaver and Jessie as they are blood relatives it is interesting to find out all this extra information. I am hoping the marriage certificate will help me further and have considered contacting Jessie although this is delicate as you can imagine. I am however travelling to London at the end of the year and will visit the London Archives to follow up further. I only have limited time so is there any suggestions on the best way to approach my search there....and do they have asistants to help. Also... I know Ada spent time in Hospitals and Salvation Army places between around 1935 and 1942 and would always be around London, Kent, Southwark, St Lukes. I dont think she ever went anywhere else. I have also seen the census 1911 that Janice has stated above and do wonder if perhaps Ada herself was in care or hospital during that time??? I know she must have struggled a lot and still remains a mystery to me.
thanks to everyones help I know I am etching closer to finding her and discovery more about who she was. sooooo grateful :-)

Mavis
to answer your question in regard to whether Ada was alive in 1945... I know for certain that Ada did not die in 1945 because I have records of her visiting my dad in 1955 when he was 18 and also my mum says she stayed with us when I was young although I can not remember (so most likely before age 5) and I was born in 1960. we left England in 1969 and I am sure she was also alive then.
I think she had a terribly difficult life and am growing more and more interested each day. .thanks again

very sure that Ada of Kelmscott road is not my grandmother as sure she was alive after 1960 ( the year I was born) as she had stayed with us after that. I have sent for her marriage certificate and hopefully that might help with identifying her date of birth to be able to wittle it down a bit. thanks for your efforts
