Hi Tracy.

I had fun finding it. The info is out there. I've only got my Platinum sub to GR and everywhere else I find stuff is on free websites. It's a bit like a jigsaw with getting hints of info and playing about with it if it's not clear that you've found anything useful. I don't think I've explained it well. I learned how to do my family tree on the internet by reading threads and paying attention to people like Rambling Rose, MC, Gins and a pile of others and how they seemed to find stuff.

And perhaps it's in my nature to squirrel. In jobs and with friends , I've often been the one who gets asked to chase some info or find more details after someone vaguely remembers something mentioned in a mag or newspaper or on tv or radio at some point in the last twenty years or so. Sometimes I'm asked for something that's just really obscure and it needs 'outside the box' thinking. I used to have to do it all by telephone. It's a lot easier to do with the internet.

Use Google. It's a wonderful tool. I input Gresley and that was how I found the lists. It's always worth inputting a name then London Gazette. I found some really interesting bits of info on some of my names.

I did try to find Leas Row using Google and Google Earth but presumably it no longer exists or has been renamed. Might be that you have to contact the library in Swad or CG.

Found this old thread. Might be useful.

And you should read this. It's about children down the mines and an accident in CG.

Let me know what you have about Bernard and May. It would be interesting to try to find out where and when he died.

Found possible marriage on FreeBMD.

Then on FreeBMD again I input for births surname Lea with mother's maiden name Read. I found four. Three in Edmonton 1915,1917 and 1927 and one in Walsall in 1915. The Edmonton 1915 birth was March 1/4 and the Walsall one Dec 1/4.

The three Edmonton children seemed to have survived to some age. I can't find that any of them died before 1944.

There's a possible death for Bernard 1958 in Burton but this one has the middle initial J. Yob works out as 1885. He could just be Bernard Joselyn Lea born Stapenhill and age 26 on the 1911. So as he's on the 1911 he can't be the Bernard I've found in Edmonton who was born in CG.

I've sent you a pm for the possible children.

Bernard is in the meat industry. His father was in the mines. The Norhampton Leas were meat industry. There has surely to be some connection more than Maurice B's dad working in CG.

Morning Tracy

I've not driven through Swadlingcote for about twenty years. The Leas are a bit confusing but now I know which family it should make more sense. Seems that Maurice is from the Northampton Leas but maybe there is the link to Church Gresley or why wouldn't the family have done something in Northampton? (not worked that one out yet). After I read your post this morning I was wondering how a mining family could have dedicated a park. That's when I googled the park and found out that the Maurice safc found the death for was your Maurice so I think it means that those Leas I found last night/early this morning and deleted in favour of the Gresley Leas who happen to have a lot in common, were the right ones after all; the family in the butcher occupation. HEHE. But it's not a problem. I can relook up the family knowing which ones I should be looking for unless anyone does it for you whilst I'm off doing stuff.
