There is quite a gap between the last child born in Essex and Walter in 1914. They are all registered as Seadon though so I would presume it were the same father although it's always best to check!

Heres William ,Leyton came under West ham Reg district

Births Jun 1906
Seadon William Charles W. Ham 4a 379

there's quite a gap between the children to Walter being born in 1914 so wonder whether thay didnt have the same father . just a thought.

You may like to consider getting this birth cert too if the one for Walter doesnt give any answers

Found birth index for William, Elsie May and Walter but Hilda doesn't seem to be coming up.

I found a May Seadon in 1909 Rochford, Essex and there is a Hilda M Seadon in 1912 Rochford, Essex but the mother's maiden name is Mortimer so that rules that one out.

Unfortunately I do not know when he was abandoned - I will ask my grand aunt.

Had a quick search of Elsie's parents (based on those census) and they came from Scotland so that links up with what I was told.

Good point MarieCeleste re subsequent marriage.

In 1911, Elsie states she is married so I wonder where her husband is at that time?! It says they married 1905 but then they may have just written that whether they were married or not.

This may be unconnected, but am posting just in case:

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1919
Walker Arthur G Wellum Kings N 6d 262
Wellum Elsie Walker Kings N. 6d 262

If Elsie Wellum and Mr Seadon were never legally married then any subsequent marriage for her would be in her maiden name.

Any idea when Walter was abandoned?

I can see that on the site I was looking for, there is an error in the transcript - says Leadon instead of Seadon!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 11 Sep 2012 12:36

On the 1911, William born 1906 would possibly be the brother Bill.

Not yet finding a marriage c1905 for a Seadon to an Elsie.

Sarah Report 11 Sep 2012 12:18

My grand aunt has asked me to see if I can find anything out about her husband Walter Alexander Wellum Seadon. It seems to be quite a complicated case. He was born with the above name in Windsor Reg District in 1914. His mothers maiden name is Wellum.

He had two sisters - Elsie M Seadon and Hilda Seadon as well as a brother called Bill.

Now, at some point, apparently, he was left on a railway station by his parents and was taken in by Barnado's and then was sent to High Wycombe, Bucks to live with a family surnamed Williams. Walter took the surname of Williams. He also married in the surname of Williams.

I have searched for a Wellum/Seadon marriage but there is nothing in the whole of England. I cannot find the births of his siblings either only ones that are way too old to be connected.

Now the story doesn't quite add up. Apparently he still had contacts with the Seadon family afterwards - if he had been left on a train station then Barnado's wouldn't have known who his family were. It is believed that some of the family lived in Scotland too. I have searched Scotland People cand found no Seadon or Wellum records.

Apparently he did at one point have his birth certificate so my dad is going to ask her if she still has it and if so can let us have a look at it as it will give us his parents names.

Just to clarify, Walter is now deceased.

Any thoughts?
