Hello Jennifer,

It is so nice to get these updates and I am very pleased to see that you have eventually found your 'old friend'.

I hope that you both get pleasure from this renewed friendship after so many years.

Best wishes,

Hello Folks. I did not give up and am delighted to say that Valerie Palmer nee Jones as been located in Exeter Devon and we have had a lovely catch up phone conversation. So, after all, my feelings that she was still around Hampstead were quite wrong!
Thanks to everybody for their help.

Nothing has come back from my letter to the occupier of the flat over Starbucks. I shall now concentrate on Hillingdon. I rang a startled lady called Valerie Palmer in Maida Vale. Not the same one it seems! Can't keep making a nuisance of myself. Thanks everybody.

I telephoned Starbucks and the foreign young lady was most unhelpful. Didn't know and didn't care! An assistant at the Mistry pharmacy said he didn't know but would ask the older pharmacist when he was available. So far not rung back. So, the letter is in the post. Just a chance! Thanks all.

My goodness - that is so clever. Yes Valerie and her parents did live in the flat over a shop which used to be a Co-Op I think. I used to call for her so that we could go to school together. (60 years ago!!) Now I have the name of the present shop ie Starbucks, I will definitely give them a call. Also - I have found that Kenneth Seymour Palmer had a previous wife who he married in 1957 - Florence Esme Simpson so Valerie may have some step kids knocking about. I found a death for him in Hillingdon October 1985. The plot thickens. Thanks very much everybody. This is much more interesting than the depressing current affairs in the news eh?

Nah. I was hoping to find them on 192 but no luck. Happy for someone to do a double check.

On the off-chance, why not try the chemist. Cost of a telephone call.

Good Luck.xJ

I've tried to find the property on Zoopla because it's supposed to show sold prices since 1995. Almost all the fifteen or so properties listed are in the 70 numbers. So I went onto Google Maps and then down to street level.

The House of Mistry Pharmacy is 15-17 South End Road. They have been there since 1975. http://www.houseofmistry.com/about/our_history/

Moving down the road and I've checked the number on Google, is Starbucks at 5-7 South End Road. The rooms above look residential so could they have lived in one of the flats?

I'm wondering if there is a chance that someone at the Pharmacy would remember the family? Have you checked Directory Enquiries for Valerie and her husband?

Back in minute.

Thanks Jan, I am not local and live in Manchester. That is why I lost contact with everybody when my parents moved up here from London when I was 14. I'l pop a letter in the post and then that will rule out her still being there!.

I think looking for births of possible children will be too difficult as the names are so common. My feeling, after investigating the address. would be to get the marriage cert and look for Kenneth or his relatives. There is a good chance he was married before, assuming he is around Valerie's age, and he might have children, or siblings, who might be able to help you.
Regarding the address, if you are local it might be worth checking the electoral register. This would indicate how long they lived there, and also whether there are any other adults in the household.

You could try Friends Reunited as you know the school you went too.

i found my old best pal from Grammar school on there and we hadn't been in touch for almost 50 years. We are still in touch now some 8 years later.

Thanks - that seems to be my last resort. Do you think it's worth looking for offspring - in case she had one either straight away or before the wedding?

Yes - but not much luck. Maybe they cleared off abroad once Winifred passed away? I will look for his birth to see how old he was

I bit the bullet and ordered the death certificate of Valerie's mother and it has just arrived and shows her has the informant and called VALERIE PALMER. It seems that she married a KENNETH S PALMER in Q2 1979 at the age of 41 so possibly no descendants. The marriage was a couple of months before her mother died! At least I know her name but not where she went. Surely it can't be possible that she and her husband do not still live at 7 Southend Road NW3? Thank you all for your interest
