Elaine Report 6 Oct 2012 20:32

I am wondering if anyone can help me….I am trying to find any information on ….Ann Clarrisa Pye who was born in Liverpool in 1781/1782 she was Baptised on 20 Jan 1782 at St Mary's, Walton-On-The-Hill, Liverpool. She married William Milton on the 20 DEC 1817 at Saint Peter’s, Church Street, Liverpool. She died in Liverpool on the 3/9/1858 aged 76 years........ there is a grave stone in Toxteth Park Cemetery stating: Sacred to the memory / of / Ann Clarissa MILTON, / daughter of the late John Bridge PYE, / died September 3rd 1858, / aged 76 years.

Her Father was: John Bridge Pye, a Musician, also from Liverpool
Her Mother was: Margaret Alice Gibson

Now I have all this information but I cannot find her or her husband in the 1841 or 1851 census returns and I wondered if a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ could help. Also I am not sure if they had children and so I cannot even look them up!

Many thanks

Elaine

Just posting for reference:
Deaths Sep 1858
Milton Ann Claissa W. Derby 8b 360

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 6 Oct 2012 21:01

There is also this, but it's funny her husband isn't mentioned on the grave stone.

Deaths Sep 1856 MILTON William W Derby 8b 271

I can't find any hint of either of them.

Like Ozibird,

I wonder why that gravestone does not mention William Milton

eg, Beloved wife (or widow) of William Milton.

I also cannot find any trace of them.

Elaine,
What other details are on the death certificate?
Is there anything else on the gravestone?
(And, similarly, no sign in 1841 or 1851)

KathleenBell Report 7 Oct 2012 00:06

Wonder if she died at the same time as her father which could be why he is mentioned on the headstone:-

Name: PYE, John Bridge
Registration district: Liverpool
County: Lancashire
Year of registration: 1858
Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Volume no: 8B
Page no: 178

EDIT - probably not as the page numbers are not close.

I can't find Ann or her husband in the census either.

Do you think that is her Father or a brother? (Father would have to be born 1765 or earlier)

I suppose it could be a brother. Hadn't really taken much notice of Ann's year of birth - just saw the middle name of Bridge and thought it was her father.

Elaine probably/possibly has all this, so it is helping us sort out the family, but not to find the missing Miltons.

Flip Report 7 Oct 2012 07:59

The only possible I can find is on the 1851 census - age is out, but birth place correct:

Ann C Milton
Age: 56
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1795
Relation: Head
Gender: F (Female)
Where born: Walton on the Hill, Lancashire, England

Civil parish: Liverpool
Town: Liverpool
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England

Street Address: <<62 Lowther street

Occupation:

Condition as to marriage:

Disability: View image

Registration district: Liverpool
Sub-registration district: Mount Pleasant
ED, institution, or vessel: 1h
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 168
Piece: 2182
Folio: 270
Page Number: 62
Household Members: Name Age
Ann C Milton 56 << widow, schoolmistress
Mary Ward 29 << house servant, born Warrington

If Sylvia is correct and there was a marriage break-up then she may have registered as a widow.

I see from Lancashireopc she had a number of siblings - these extracts fromLiverpool Mercury may be of interest:

17/1/1834 - Thurs 19th (drowned) on board the barque Brothers in Carmarthen Bay, John Bridge Wells, 20, grandson of the late John Bridge Pie, music seller of this town.

20/5/1853 - May 15 Gresford nr Wrexham, Charlotte Jane Lee (26) 2nd daughter of D B Wells & g/d of John Bridge Pye, late of Liverpool & Barbados

15/10/1856 - Oct 10, Clarrisa Ann Hanford, 11, at her grandfathers residence Erskine Street ggd of JBP, Esq, later of Liverpool & Barbados

Added - there is a will on national archives site 25/5/1814, which shows both Ann's parents were dead by then - extract:

Probate Copy of Will of Edmund Newman Kershaw of Heskin Hall, esq. -- to sister or reputed sister Charlotte Bamford £2000. To children of Margaret wife of John Bridge Pye of Liverpool, musician, both decd, £500.
