Stuart Many thanks for all your work finding the information for me it is a great help. I would not have known where to look . Is there any way of checking to find out if the Thomas Hartley and wife Elizabeth (andrews find) and Joseph Hartley and wife Elizabeth (your find) are related. I know there are many families with the same surname that are not related.
Thank you Sheila

Thank you Stuart. No-one had said that he was in the Army but if his pension records show he was married to Florence James then that must be the correct family. They had a son Hetley b 1911.

Sheila - Don't think Andrew's one is correct. If you say he was married to Florence James then I think we have proved Ernest was the one with the policeman father in Nottingham. His Army pension records show his marriage to Florence James.

Andrew It looks as if you have the right person as were told his other name was Joseph and looking at the rest of the family names it maybe that the John Hartley age 70 is the grandfather which would be great.
Thanks for all the information. What would do without you all. Sheila
