???????????????????????????????????????????????

I don't know what to make of this.

Note Emma Jane 'Linger' has been married for 11 yrs, is born Devizes c1880 and has a daughter called Rose Emily born Bath 1901.

From the image it is Henry Thomas Linger she is married to, and there have been two children supposedly born of the 11 yr marriage, one living and one deceased.

The co-incidence of the two names and birthyears and places tallying, not to mention the move to Wales, seems quite a co-incidence.

Maybe Emily/Emma married Mr Millard, then eloped with Mr Linger, who couldn't marry her because she was already married?

Census 1911

Address: 24 Berw Road Pontypridd County: Glamorganshire

>>LINGER, Emma Jane Apartments Married 11 years F 31 1880 Davizes Wiltshire
>>LINGER, Rose Emily Apartments Single F 10 1901 Bath Somerset
WALKERS, Emma Head Single F 65 1846 Abercynon Glam
GODFREY, James Boarder Single M 28 1883 Railway Porter Somerset Bristol
LINGER, Henry Thomas Apartments Married M 28 1883 Cellerman Bath Somerset

I can't find a birth for a Rose Linger in Bath, not can I find a marriage for a Henry Linger to an Emma or Emily.

Just to confuse the issue further.... ;-)

EDIT: Linger on the transcription, could just as easily be Singer on the image..
Again, no birth for a Rose Emily Singer, or a marriage for Henry Singer.

Thanx again every1. I will def try to get hold of the bith certsb for my mum & hers. It is quite poss she was transcribbed wrong from emily to emma so that is def a thot. I know I called her nana Emily and my wife met her so she died when i was an adult. She married Edward H Phillips (Ted) but he was not my mums dad. My mum was 15 when they married. I know spinster was on Emily J Lampard's marriage cert but i only have half of it for some reason. I know my mum was def born in Bath in 1901 under Millard but she never knew her dad and I was told he wouldnt marry Emily but ???? :-S I know Emily had a sister mable who had a son about 10 yrs younger than my mum, or at least thats what we think from the letters I have. :-S I have a freind who is a registra but on hols this week so when she is home I will go to see her to see if she can get the certs & untangle this mess.

Sorry to be a pain but I should add that my wife says that Emily and Ted both moved here to Llanelli (Llanelly) and ted died here in 1958. When i checked up there are 2 deaths in Llanelly in 1956 & 1957 for a Emily phillips. That corresponds to my wife knowing her as we got together around 1956.

I did try to work out if she had married a millard and found emma lampard 1900 in bath but when i looked back to her birth in wilts she was emma henrietta so that can not be her. i thought that maybe emma & emily had got mixed up on the register but she had jayne has a middle name

Terry,

The Emma who married Frederick Millard is called Emily in census 1901 when she is living with him.

I strongly suspect that Emily was fibbing when she described herself as a spinster when she married in 1916, and had not only been married to Frederick Millard, but possibly also lived as 'man and wife' with Henry Thomas L/Singer.
