I am looking for some guidance / expertise as drawing a blank on locating the following person:-

Margaret Ross Watson (born c1887) - Rosewell, Midlothian (Scotland)
Married to Alexander Stewart (25/09/1915) - Rosewell, Midlothian (Scotland). She was aged 28 on date of marriage hence the cDOB.

Her parents were Samuel Watson and Margaret Ross who were married in 1890 (also Rosewell, Midlothian (Scotland)

FYI - Rosewell is part of the district Lasswade but no obvious people seem to have been registered at the expected time.

I think the fact that her parents were unmarried might suggest that she was registered under a different name, but I cant seem to locate a Margaret Ross and according to her parents Marriage cert I don't believe her mother was previously married.

There is a Margaret Donald Ross born in 1887, but that has the incorrect parents!!

Any ideas as to how might source this date.

Did Samuel and Margaret have other children if so have you managed to find their birth certs

Unfortunately I think its too early as she 28 on the date of marriage (unless she lied!!)

Also North Leith is roughly 20 miles from the area I would expect, and as the family are all coal miners I would be surprised if they moved around and Leith was not as area involved in that industry.

Which census have you found her on ?

What are the full details on the marriage certificate of Samuel Watson and Margaret Ross please? What age was Margaret Ross and who did she name as her parents when she married Samuel?

I have just reviewed the Census from 1891, and this poses more issues as I can locate parents (Samuel / Margaret) and 2 further children (Jemima and William) but not the one I would expect to locate.

I might revisit some previous searches and ensure I have validated al details from Marriage Certificate etc

*looking at Margarets mother I am now wondering if it could possibly be Jane Ross not Irene Ross?

If the mother wasnt married when she had Margaret, she could have been sent away from the area to have the child?

If your Margaret's mother wasn't married when she was born her birth would be registered (and indexed) with the surname Ross. Even if the father was named and present at the registration her birth would be indexed under his name and also under Ross.

Seems odd that there is no argaret with the family?

Can you confirm who else stayed with Margaret R Watson (age 6) in the 1891 census?

I am wondering if she was sent to live with someone else as she was born out of wedlock. If this is the case then her age on her marriage cert is wrong.

Have you managed to check back on the census the parents given on the 1890 cert and then worked forward to see if any grand children with them

I ruled out that 1891 posting as parents did not match but will take another look

What address is given on 1890 cert and does it match the 1891 census posted

Might be a daft question but, have you found the death cert for Margaret Stewart ms Watson and if so did the parents match the marriage cert?

I have just found two deaths for people in my own tree,to discover that both fibbed about their parents when they married.
Both named grandparents as their parents, but their children who were the informants to the deaths, provided accurate info.
Both were illegitimate females and attempted to hide it by naming grandparents.

My 3 or 4 x grand father had loads of grandchildren with him on one census all with surnames that I could not match up. Eventually found all the births and they were all illigetimate (sp?) to his daughters. He even registered some of the births so I knew they were right
