Sorry Flip,
I meant the witness on his wife's, Jemima.

Flip

Flip Report 3 Nov 2012 07:13

I think there is some confusion here, there is normally only one person named on a death certificate as the informant - ie the person registering the death.

Norfolkboy

Norfolkboy Report 3 Nov 2012 00:02

Hi Flip,
The info had just come from an elderly relative, will get back to them and ask if they know who the other witness's were,
Many Thanks.

Flip Report 2 Nov 2012 14:23

Where did that snippet of info come from?? No probate record though for any more details.

If John was a soilder in 1901 then he could have been anywhere in 1911, he could have married anywhere (if at all) so it may be worth getting the death certificate narrowed down on page 1 to check who registered the death.

Wonder who registered Jemima's death in 1931 Ipswich?

Deaths Jun 1931 (>99%)

Hawes Jemima 79 Ipswich 4a 1047

This is getting very interesting
Have just discovered that in 1931 he was a witness on his fathers death certificate .

Doing a free search on FMP, this comes up;

Royal Marine Medal Roll 1914-1920
Last name First name(s) Rank Number View
details
HAWES John Henry Private CH/14223

Flip

Flip Report 2 Nov 2012 06:55

According to 1901 census he was a soldier - there's nothing on A* military records, wonder if it is worth checking FMP to see if they have his enlistment & record - or are there other sites?

Flip

Flip Report 2 Nov 2012 06:36

I would agree with that being the most likely death. Unfortunately no probate though. The one in 1963 grants probete to wife Emma Mabel (Brown) - married Yarmouth 1914 - so that marriage can also be ruled out.

So looking at the possible births of the same name;

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Births Jun 1883 (>99%)
HAWES John Henry Norwich 4b 116
HAWES John Henry Newmarket 3b 597

Births Jun 1884 (>99%)
Haws John Henry Plomesgate 4a 825

Births Dec 1885 (>99%)
Hawes John Henry Plomesgate 4a 819

So there is 4 born in total within 3 years, so lets see if we can trace all deaths.

Other possibles;

Page: 3066

And then the 1 MC posted;

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Deaths Jun 1905 (>99%)
Hawes John Henry 19 Plomesgate 4a 523

If it were me I think I would consider the North Bucks 1 myself. The Cambridge death was possibly born in Newmarket, the Yarmouth death was most likely the Norwich birth and the Plomesgate 1 most likely the 1885 Plomesgate birth...... the only 1 that doesn't fit is the Buckinghamshire death.

it's getting comlicated again !!

That's possible Flip, I'd tied the death in to the 1884 birth posted further up

Norfolkboy Report 31 Oct 2012 22:06

Hi Flip,
I have his parents, Abraham Hawes & Jemima Martin, There were that i know of Ten children, it was complicated to sort out as several of the children were born out of wedlock and baptised as Martin, they then had their name changed to Hawes when their parents married in 1875.
I found John on the 1901 census but not on the 1911 one, but it looks like "Marie Celeste" could have just found him for me,
Many thanks for your help.
Will let you know if A* member contacts me.

How and why are you researching John please? Just not clear how you've got back to him, but it would help to know.

Flip

Flip Report 31 Oct 2012 15:38

OK, message sent to the tree owner on A* (Stephen Howes) - he is an active member so hopefully will make contact direct to your e-mail address. He, and another member, has the mother as Jemima Martin, but the other member has only researched one of their children and has no details for the rest of them.

Flip

Flip Report 30 Oct 2012 21:50

I can contact them if you wish. You can't make contact without a membership, but they don't have anything on John after 1901 though.

Just let me know if you want me to make contact, and PM me your email address to pass on. Don;t post your address on here - not allowed.
