Doreen...
Am puzzled as to why you have ruled out the marriage of Catherine to John as Listed by safc. where did you find that particular couple living on 1871 Census..??

mgnv Report 5 Nov 2012 10:48

To pair off most couples in Co Durham, use:
http://www.northeastbmd.org.uk/

Surname Forename(s) Year District
McCULLAGH Catherine 1864 Durham Western
McMAHON John 1864 Durham Western
Register No. - Entry No. - District
R16/AUCK - 14 - Durham Western (1864)
[This looks like the Auckland registrar's own register, so either a rego office marr or a non-conformist marr the registrar had to attend]

in relation to bridget mcmahon, i believe ( no i hope as ive ordered her marriage certificate!) that the name manning instead of mcmahon has been a mistake, just like the numerous spellings i have found for mcmahon.

Doreen

Doreen Report 4 Nov 2012 21:37

STUART yes i found that marriage previously, i decided and have ordered the marriage certificate for patrick gallagher and bridget manning.

Thank you safc. i had ruled out the people on this record. i found them in the 1871 census, and so not the people i am looking for.

Trying to help or have I got this completely wrong?????? Am I looking at the wrong census????

Bridget would appear to be GALLAGHER (not Gillespie) in the 1901 - see marriage posted above
(I have found Alice and Nicholas Tomaney)

The 1901 marriage is GALLAGHER/LINSKEY (not Livesky)

The 1892 marriage is a Bridget MANNING (not McMahon)/Patrick GALLAGHER

On FMP she is transcribed as Lunskey b 1878

i know all the liverpool records are on ancestry, really helpful if your family is from there. i just thought maybe somewhere the durham ones are available. No i am going to order the marriage certificate.

You will need to purchase the cert to find those details in most cases

Doreen

Doreen Report 2 Nov 2012 19:08

i want to know if anyone can find details attatched to the marriages such as fathers names and occupations witnesses etc. yes bridget is gillespie in 1901 census, but livesky in 1911 census as she remarried in 1902.

The Durham 1892 Mar Qtr 10a 455 shows this -
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

BURNS Alice Durham 10a 455
Gallagher Patrick Durham 10a 455
Manning Bridget Durham 10a 455

The child Gallagher b 1893 on the 1901 census with Catherine and Bridget is Patrick, so named after his father

You might have found her, but I hadn't and was pointing out a 10 year age difference between the two census, which may or may not have helped me or others trying to help you.

Doreen Report 2 Nov 2012 18:41

Doreen, I'm now trying to hide my shame of my dubious ancestry :-D So could you podt up the census records you've already found to save duplication of research please?

In 1871 she is in Darlington, no occupation, but daughter MAry Ann aged 6 shown as born Witton Park, so pretty sure same person. However her age here is 40 (same as the 1881!!)
