Thanks Yvonne, they are the ones I found - although the actual church registers give dates of birth.

I/We just can't find her transit to SA, or her husbands. And we don't know where the earlier children were born either - although I don't believe in England/Wales if freebmd can be relied on.

Also, we can't find where Clara/Arthur were married, not England/Wales and Jude has checked Scotland - so were they married SA or elsewhere?? Who knows!

Thanks Jude, I still can't open that page!! And thanks Shirley for the possible passenger list - do you know if that couple had young Pheobie (or child) with them please?

Eric and Edna June 25th 1917...can't for the life of me interpret the address!

Flip Report 14 Jun 2015 07:13

Thanks for checking Jude.

I think I can eliminate all the passenger lists so far, Family search has the christenings of 5 children in Transvaal 4/10/1925. The oldest is Phoebe Agnes, born 3/7/1909 then Dorothy 23/12/11, Marjory 19/5/15. Eric & Edna are on the next page in the register but it won't open at the moment as the internet is playing up as usual.

Father George Arthur Boyce was a miner, mother Clara Agnes Boyce. They lived 18 Scott Street, Jeppis S???

Yes, it looks promising, so if the Geni tree is correct she must have married between 5/9/13 and the birth of first child (Marjorie) 19/5/1915 (born in SA). Tree states married England, but then again it has her husband born 16/11/1872 in Edinburgh, England. I'm thinking they may have married in Scotland.

Any sign of another outbound between 1913 & 1915 please?

Jacqueline's posting - seems to be alone

But occupation tallies nicely with the Melbourne incoming in 1913

Thanks Jacqueline, that's a good possibility - I can't find a Boyce/Henderson marriage in England/Wales. Would also explain why she doesn't appear on the 1911 census. Was she travelling alone please?

I've found confirmation of the years of death for both Clara & George from SA archives, but no other details.

Just thought I'd have another look for Clara, and googling her brought up some details on geni.com.

According to the site, she was born 15/8/1881, died 5/8/31 and was married to George Arthur Boyce (16/11/1871 - 22/12/1940). There is a dob for twins born 25/6/1917 - Edna & Eric in Transvaal, SA.

I've tried to verify any of the information, but so far no luck - could someone else take a look please?

I know records are being added to all the time, so could anyone check if there is any sign of her on GR or FMP - I've already done another check on Ancestry and Family Search but found nothing.

According to her brother Mauice, she definitely went to South Africa, but have had no luck so far in finding a UK marriage for her or a passage to SA under her maiden name. Maurice's son Leslie passed on this information before he died.

There were other family connections with SA because Maurice's wife's (Dora Kendall) sister Fanny Wilkinson, died in 1935 whilst her husband was in SA - he was a miner. Dora and Fanny's father Thomas Kendall was also a miner in SA, he died in Ulverston, Lancashire in 1905. But I have no way of knowing if any of this is relevant or connected.

Thanks for checking Catherine, not very conclusive unfortunately. I'm really not sure about that passage as there was no connection to Australia that I know of.
