lancashireAnn Report 18 Nov 2012 18:17

the death cert may not be too helpful as you already know who she was married to and her daughter's name - the only other info on the cert would be whoever registered the death

the marriage cert to Nash would give her previous married name and possibly who she was married to plus her maiden name and the name of her father. Lots more to help you trace back

There is also this death as a possibility if Eileen's father went to war (although I only picked this one out as it was the Middlesex Regiment):-

Name: HARRIS, Harold G
Unit: Middlesex Regiment
Rank: Private
Number: G/9159
Year: 1917
Volume: I.69
Page: 228
Record source: GRO War Death Army Other Ranks (1914 to 1921)

I've just been looking at the same marriage and births for Muriel M. Callaghan that lancashireAnn has posted. That could be a possibility too.

but everything fits quite nicely in the one for Callaghan that I posted

I was starting to think that perhaps Eileen was illigitmate.. :-S

Wow great stuff Kath, could be her.. <3

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 18 Nov 2012 17:41

how about this one

Marriages Jun 1912 (>99%)
Callaghan Muriel M Harris Holborn 1b 1244
Harris Harold G Callaghan Holborn 1b 1244

Births Mar 1914 (>99%)
Harris Eileen N Callaghan Holborn 1b 1115

could easily be Eileen M on the original - typing is blurred

If Eileen did not really know her dad maybe he was known as Harry which could be either Harold or Henry

According to Eillens marraige and death her mother was Muriel May Nash, just got both certificates last week...Muriel Nash brought up Eileens two sons Albert Southwick born 1933 and Ronald Charles Southwick born 1935 at her home in Collesbrook Rd Islington..

Do you think that Eileen may have been illegitimate? Lots of illegitimate children would "make up" a "deceased" father for their marriage to save face in front of the in-laws.

There is this birth which could be Muriel's - the first names are the other way round but lots of people were known by their middle name and then put that name first when giving information:-

Name: HARRIS, May Muriel
Registration district: Kensington
County: London
Year of registration: 1893
Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume no: 1A
Page no: 155

This birth would tie in with the death record and Kensington isn't too far from Finsbury if that's where she lived.

I am beginning to think her marriage cert to Nash might be needed. I assume you know for certain that she is Eileen's mother?
