I'm trying to find any info on John Farrer born abt 1828, probably in Liverpool. I've searched Ancestry, findmypast and FamilySearch and can't find him. The only Farrers I can find for that time period are baptisms for children of a Richard and Mary Ann Farrer but no John. Any suggestions where I can look next. |

Details for above marriage so may not be your John if your dates are correct |

The only reason I think he was born in Liverpool is that his descendents were born in Liverpool. I have the birth cert for son Thomas, which shows the parents as John Farrer (butcher) & Bridget Salmon living in Peter Street, Liverpool. I have searched for John and Bridget but no luck. They don't seem to have married. There is a marriage for Bridget on the same page as John but they are not married to each other. |

In 1841 census there is a Robert Farrer (b 1826) living with a John and Mary Pepper. The Farrer family had family friends by the name of Pepper so I wonder if Robert could be John's brother but I can't find John in 1841 census. |

The names are given on Thomas' birth certificate. I talked to Liverpool Records Office and was told that the John Farrer and Bridget Salmon on the same page were not married to each other. |

It`s quite possible that this Bridget is one and the same and that John re-married. I have no idea how I would prove all this. Maybe if I send for the above death certificate it might show the informant as someone other than John, what do you think. |

On Thomas Farrer`s birth certificate the occupation of John (father) is given as butcher, and on the marriage certificate of Thomas, John is also a butcher. This could mean that the John Farrer born in Isle of Man is the correct one. |

Okay, just checked the 1881 census for John and Louisa. Louisa is shown as widow living at 18 Charles Street (occupation Bird Dealer), so looks as if John died between 1871 and 1881. Not sure how I prove any of it though. |
