I have found where Ada married Karl Alfred Carston at Benham Estate Avoca.
Apparently it was and is today a large estate.
I have been given some info on someone who might be able to help with names of people that worked there.
If it is fruitful I will post here.
Karl father was Karl Otto Carston - mother Caroline Rebecca Carston

I Thank you all again.
I have been trying to take it all in.
Yes I did find the death of a George in Tassie.
John Earl did die 40years of age and is buried at Campbell Town in Tassie.
Have found Karl Alfred Carston 40 yrs marying Ada in 1896.
Info says he was born in Sweden to
Caroline Rebecca Carston and Karl Otto Carston.
Would anyone be researching the Carston's from Sweden?
Also found that a Mrs.Earl was a cottage occupier in Avocoa 1894.
Again " Thanks for all the info.

From that Rootschat thread, by one of the contributors:

"I have had another thought about how Ada Rebecca came down under.

Ada's mother Emma died in 1851, and her father George remarried to Sarah WHITE in 1852. George and Sarah had two children, a son George 1853-1854, and a daughter Etty 1854-??, and then George died in 1854. Sarah remarried herself after that.

George's mother Sophia died in 1853. As there is no sign of Ada in the 1861 or 1871 census, but Etty and her mother are there, I suspect that Ada came to NZ with her grandfather John after 1854. John died in NZ in 1861. Ada may have been brought up in NZ by her uncle and aunt John and Rebecca REMINGTON, or in Victoria by her uncle and aunt Henry and Charlotte REMINGTON, and then at some stage she has gone to Tasmania

John and Rebecca's eldest son John went to Launceston about 1870, where he married and not long after moved to Victoria."

It looks like our poster will have seen this.

Hi Cook - the way your answering by using the "add reply" box is definitely the right way to do it, get's much too complicated if you do individual messages.

Do you know anything about George's second wife and marriage?

cookie4416

cookie4416 Report 22 Jan 2013 13:40

I " Thank You " all for your info.
This site and researching is new to me and certainly wasn't expecting the replies that I have received.
Ada Rebecca was my G.Granmother that I have been researching.
I believe she came to Australia with the Malkin families after her mother died.
Her mother was a Malkin.
Etty is from George's 2nd marriage.
I was unable to find her.
Could you " PLEASE " let me know if I need to answer you all individually.
This is my first time on

Me neither Margee. Was wondering if she could have been away and came back into the country?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 22 Jan 2013 13:08

I can't find her, MC. I've tried Etty, Ettie, Elly, Ellen etc. Tried no first name Remington. No luck!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 22 Jan 2013 12:53

Can anyone find Etty on census before her marriage?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 22 Jan 2013 12:52

I agree, MC, that the occupation on the 51 census is waiter not nailer. The enumerator did not cross his t's and the first letter is the same as the W on Isle of Wight.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 22 Jan 2013 12:21

This looks to be the marriage of Ada Rebecca's parents:

London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921

Name: George Remington - a waiter
Age: Full Age
Spouse Name: Emma Malkin
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 8 Dec 1845
Parish: Lambeth St John the Evangelist
Borough: Lambeth
Father Name: John Remington - mariner
Spouse Father Name: George Malkin - ironmonger
Register Type: Parish Register

Neither married before and both give address as Whitehouse Street.

Witnesses: J R Remington and Esther Jackson.

It is a little odd that on this marriage George's occupation is the same as on Etty's baptism?

Also, on the original image of the 1851 that Andy posted above i think the occupation could be "waiter", not "nailer".

Mike * Report 22 Jan 2013 11:58

Yes, I'm wondering what evidence the poster has that the girls were sisters ?

Not seeing Etty Remington in 1861
and George and daughter Ada went to Australia but Etty married and died in England.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 22 Jan 2013 11:55

Trouble is Ada Rebecca's parents were George & Emma, Bowling Green St. and George is a porter.

Ettie Ellen's parents were George & Sarah, 32 Hosier Lane and George is a waiter.
