Richard's age on census image is unclear - Ancestry has him as 32 whereas FMP says 22! |

This looks likely for him on 1861 - the father is also a cabinet maker ?? |

So it seems that I do not know the father of Arthur Ernest, it is a fair assumption that Richard was dead well before Arthur was concieved which would make sense of the blank on the birth cert for Arthur. I think my family tree is now in need of serious revision from me. I must look at the suggested censuses 1881 Arthur/Julia Davies, and I think I may have to order one or two certificates to try to verify Julia's details. I admit I am only a full member of genes reunited, and I have sometimes struggled with the Free BMD website. |

I am still working through all the info given on the thread, but it is all looking very solid, with Julia Davies b abt 1848, I was definately on the wrong line before with Julia Matilda. The use of Davis on a couple of the census returns threw me, but on looking at the 1911 Julia Davis original record it does actually appear that Davies is written so an error when transcribed. Mary Julia Merchant went on to have 14 children, 10 alive in 1911! Thanks again. |
