Father's occupation on marriage certificate was shipwright. Maud's father was Dennis George Durrant and he was a fisherman. I have traced a lot of her family as they were mostly all local to me.

Well that Charles that we have been putting up on the 1891 is a Ship Yard Labourer which would fit.

I have received the birth certificate for my grandfather Frederick Charles King (18/1/1887) which states: father Charles King (Railway Porter) and mother Fanny King formerly Bumstead, but on their marriage certificate (8/12/1878)she is named as Fanny Last and a spinster, but one of the witnesses is a John Bumpstead. Perhaps she changed her name? Charles was a railway platelayer on marriage cert and was a widower, so looks like the right one. Some other info I have obtained says he had children from a previous marriage, but they don't know the name of his first wife.

John Bumstead 1828 and Betsy last 1829
Married A/M/J 1849 V12 P 729

Fanny Bunstead last baptised 2/12/1848 Witnesham Suffolk.

So she was born before there marriage.

1911 Charles and Fanny had 5 children all living, but on previous census returns it shows more.
But it looks as though they had children before they married.
1871 together but didn't marry until 1878!

Sorry for late reply Mary. Many thanks for the info. That has answered my query. Thought it odd that the name Bumstead came up on their marriage cert and she was a Last. Very confusing. I can now put all the names on my tree without wondering if they were the legit ones, in more ways than one!
Thanks again
Janet
