As has been pointed out, if she was born in August 1844 she would have been 21 at marriage so would not need consent. She also claims she is only 20. Therefore unlikely to be Emily Elizabeth, unless an extremely forgetful person.

Think that christening can be ruled out by this marriage, her father a lighterman.

On the 1851 census her Mother and grandmother were both born in Canterbury Kent.
Still looking for them in 1841 and 1861.

Pat, I don't think that is her mother in 1851 - more likely to be her aunt and grandmother. The 1861 census for Mary (this time born Ashford, Kent) states Emily is her niece, not her daughter. I also think the grandchild Ellen Eldridge is on 1, not 11.

Wonder if she is the daughter of Sophia - I can't find her on any other census though.

I did not like that 1861 census because the age was out.

But I do take your point about not necessarily her mother being Mary Ann - in which case the birth certificate needs buying that NanaSue found?

Ashford is 15 miles from Canterbury.

Not sure if this helps, but the 3 children on the 1861 census (shown as sons) are in the Brentwood workhouse in 1871 they are recorded as orphans, and scholars:

William Wright
Age: 12
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1859
Gender: Male
Where born: Heston, Middlesex, England
Civil parish: Isleworth
Ecclesiastical parish: London
Town: Isleworth
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England
Registration district: Brentford
Sub-registration district: Isleworth
ED, institution, or vessel: Brentford Union Workhouse
Household schedule number: 1
Piece: 1314
Folio: 130
Page Number: 7

With him:

Walter Wright 14 (deaf and dumb as on 1861 census)
George 10

So, if the William with Emily & Frederick in 1881 is the same person it would indicate the 1861 census could be correct for Emily.

It looks like Walter stayed in an institution, was on 1881 census still a scholar in a home for deaf, and I think his is on 1911 census an inmate in the workhouse (a joiner), but ancestry does not show disabilities on 1911 census for some reason.

On findmypast it says deaf and dumb since birth

Then it looks like him then, although it doesn't get us any where near to prooving Emily though.

Think Pat is right maybe the birth cert may give some links - although she may not have been registered. I don't think there were any penalties for not registering a birth back then, but will stand corrected.

Thanks guys, the 1861 census with her listed as niece I thought we disproved earlier...ill check that...the Mary Ann on it (Head of house) has a different age by quite a bit than the Mary Ann on the 1851 census...Ill go check the earlier posts to refresh my mind
