I don't know why the marriage is of a John Lambley when the name is Thomas Ellis lambley.

I have been reading through all your info and think I have it straight now in my mind. I agree it looks like Sarah had Jane before marriage to John/Thomas Lambley and thats where Janes Lambley connection is. I will check with the birth cert but feel sure YOU all sorted it out for me..which I always felt sure you would..

I just play about with all the names...if you limit the search to the local area, its not too many to search.

I think you still need Bettys BC to confirm the info, and work back from there. Its not an easy family to follow just looking at the records, so you need the certs to check its the correct line.

I think Jane born to Sarah Ann, out of wedlock, Sarah then marries John lambley.

Jane marries twice, first to George Charlesworth, then Edwin Green. Phew!

I agree with your breakdown of all the info. I will definately send for Aunt Bets birth cert I'm sure it will confirm that her mother Jane was illegitimate born to mother Sarah Poskitt.

The only strange bit is Sarah Ann Poskitt's marriage to JOHN Lambley in 1881.

The Sarah Ann married to Thomas Ellis(s) Lambley is the correct one.
Thomas is Thomas in all censuses 1861 - 1911, and also in birth and death records:

Births Mar 1859 (>99%)
LAMBLEY Thomas Elliss Bourn 7a 283

Deaths Dec 1938 (>99%)
LAMBLEY Thomas E 79 Rotherham 9c 646

1911 census says married 29 years, which could match with 1881 marriage.
But JOHN??

There's no marriage for a Thomas Lambley to a Poskitt.

His father's name was John.

Yes, it is very strange about John/Thomas Lambley. Before I posted for help I spent hours on free BMD trying to tie a poskitt to Lambley in marriages but found nothing helpful. I did find Jane Charlesworth marrying Edwin Green but at that point I didn't know Jane had married George Charlesworth prior to Edwin.

The only thing I can think of it may be a transcript error (typing John and not Thomas) though its even more of a puzzle that John Lambley's son is THOMAS?? He surely didn't marry under his fathers name..did he?
