Member Since: July 2005 Posts: 10,619 Send Message	Couple of tips - other people will have more and better I'm sure, but these are fairly simple and help me Look for less not more ie Mary not Mary Ellen Expand area where born - people will have heard of Ulverston, but not Scales perhaps Be prepared for ages to differ by a few years You may have to trawl through all the Mary or Mary Ellens born Lancashire who are in other parts of the country too Be prepared to transpose names ie Eleanor instead of Ellen - maybe as heard by the person recording the information or using Ellen as first name not Mary

	FOR ELIMINATION ONLY I thought I was onto something here, as this John Hall's a stone quarryman. Mary E's YOB's a little out, but that's not unusual in censuses. And he has died before 1901. BUT in 1911, Mary E is shown as Mary Elizabeth, and is single. Another theory bites the dust! 1881 England Census about Mary E. Hall Name: Mary E. Member Since: January 2008 Posts: 13 Send Message	the witnesses on mariage cert are arthur ernest denny who i believe is the grooms brother and the other witness is annie whitehead but i dont know who she is, what it does say on the marriage cert is at time of marriage mary ellen lived on high street which i am guessing must be in skipton

	don't be put off by the age on the death reg - it is only as good as the person registering the death knows. Who were the witnesses on the marriage certificate please?

Member Since: January 2008 Posts: 13 Send Message	the servant ties in and DOB is near, if i can find this mary ellen in an earlier census and her dad is called john and is a quarryman it could be , is there an easy way of tracing ancestors that worked as servants not living with their familys
