I've just found a death for Jane Arron in 1849 but it doesnt give her age. |

Have you ruled out Ellen Donnelly who married Henry Avis in 1845? |

yes I've had a look and the middle name Judith doesn't appear on Matilda's marriage certificate and I don't understand why she would be christened after the others. |

It's quite a mystery isn't it - I wonder why the births are so hard to find. It's possible that they were born under a different surname - maybe Mary Ellen was the only child born to the couple, and the others are Ellen's but not George's? She might have been previously married too. |

The other children George c1857, Eliza c1859, Matilda c1861, Henry c1864 were born in Liverpool as per the census and I can't find their births. Most of the christenings in the family were at St Peters church which was destroyed in WW2. That's why I sent for Mary Ellen's birth cert as she was born in Bradford. From this I found out that her Mum was called Ellen Avis but I can't find anything about her. |

I can't quite 'get' the idea that a child born Mary Ellen would be recorded as Ellen in the census, when her mother's name was also Ellen. |

I can't see any birth records for Ellen's children, except Mary Ellen already mentioned by Irishbelle. |
