Further to my search for Clara Edwards she is not the Clara
Clewellyn As I have said before her Mother was Mary Edwards
born in 1835 although she is shown on the 1861 census as
a Turner. Also on this census is Ann Turner this is not
correct as Ann is Mary Edwards mother. The 1841 Herefordshire
census gives the Edwards family living in Putley

Ann Flide born 1805 in Woolhope Herefordshire

I have traced Mary Edwards on the 1851 census
as working as a domestic servant in Woolhope
j have been unable to any further record of
James or Hannah Edwards.
And of course what happened to my Clara after 1881

David, Clara Llewellyn's maiden name was Brazier and she is on all censuses up to 1881 living in Much Marcle, so not your Clara

Have submitted corrections to the 1881 for Edwards and Much Marcle.

Clara Edwards 1871 Hereford census Ledbury Union Workhouse
High St Ledbury aged 14 Nurse
John Charles Edwards my Grandfather aged 9 pauper/scholar also
in Workhouse.
1881 London census Clara Edward living with the Patton family in
New Cromwell Road Kensington aged 23 employed as a nursemaid
born Mckmarch Gloucestershire. I have a copy of the original census
which does say Edwards and place of birth as Much Marcle although
it says Gloucestershire which was possible in 1881 it is right on the
border with Herefordshire.
I am going to look at the 1891 census for Clara Clewellyn as the age
for my Clara is right also birthplace and this is the best lead I have ever
had

Don't think the 1891 is her, Jansmith. Arthur LLewelly married Clara Brazier in 1888.

David, a bit confused about your references to the 1881 census. There are no copies of the 1881 census - there is one image available and several transcriptions of that image. Do you mean that she is listed correctly on the image and has been mistranscribed? Please give us the details that you have found, both the incorrect and the correct so that we may look at them ourselves. We may notice something that will help.

I do not know who or if my Clara Edwards married as the
last record I have is the 1881 London census where her
name and birthplace is spelt incorrectly but I do have a copy
which does have the correct spelling. The marriage that I
thought was at St Pancras is the wrong Clara Edwards as
she was born in London.

David - so can you confirm if it was definitely a Jenkins that Clara married, or could it be Dickens per the information posted above?

My Grandfather the brother of Clara was John Charles
Edwards born Ledbury Herefordshire 1861 to Mary Edwards
but on birth was registered as a Turner. Mary was living with
John Turner on the 1861 Census not married to him. Clara
also shown as a Turner on this census. Mary and all four
children are in Ledbury Union Workhouse in late 1861 all
four children now listed as Edwards. Mary died in the workhouse
in November 1863 aged 27. Clara and John Charles are shown
on the 1871 census still in the workhouse Clara as a 14 year old
nurse and John as a pauper/scholar aged nine. Mary A. the younger
sister of Clara had died in the workhouse before the census of
1871. James the eldest of the Edwards children was shown as an
apprentice in Eggleton on the 1871 census having left the workhouse about 1867. All these records I have. James died in
South Wales in 1905. and John Charles my Mothers Father in 1931. Unfortunately my Mother who also was Clara Edwards died in 1937 when I was only nine this is my interest in finding the
original Clara.
