No unfortunately it only mentioned the details I posted on Sarah.

KDB

KDB Report 9 Jul 2013 15:44

They certainly did have a lot of children, this is what is making it so confusing.

What is unbelievable, is that yesterday at this time I had absolutely no information on this family and could not understand their connection to Hull. Thanks to everyone's help I now know how my G Grandmother came to be in Hull and also where her parents lived for a time; Railway Cottages, Willerby. Before these cottages were demolished they were situated around a four minute walk from my house! Amazing!!

This might be Mary:

Ahh yes. Thank you Margee.

It's strange there is no mention of Sarah, Mary or Margaret in the 1861 census.

Hi Maureen,

Probably not as hot here as down there but still too hot for me. High 20's during the day but cooling down at night to about 20.

Good to see you back on site, Maureen, after your little break.

KDB Report 9 Jul 2013 13:55

I have just found this Maureen, it would offer the connection to Hull that I formally could not understand-

John Haigh (son of Abraham Haigh and Sarah Bywater) was born 05 Nov 1824 in Clifton, Yorkshire, and died 10 Dec 1894 in 610 Hessle Rd, Newington, Hull. He married Hannah Carr on 09 Sep 1843 in St Margaret, York, Yorkshire, daughter of Benjamin Carr and Agnes Bailey.

However the site only mentions Hannah and John having one child by the name of Sarah b. 23 Feb 1845, 152 Walmgate, Parish of St Margaret, York, Yorkshire, d. 11 Jun 1917, 9 Newmarket St, Grimsby. This does not fit.

The plot thickens! I will keep you updated

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 9 Jul 2013 12:56

Well,I hope it's her! :-)

It looks to me as though the people with the tree on Ancestry have gotten her mixed up with a Hannah Jane HAIGH (daughter of Ben and Elizabeth) who goes on to marry an Isaac BOWER in Cheshire.

Would you let us know when you get the marriage cert please? I always like to know "the ending"....or should that be the beginning??? :-D

Good luck,

Maureen

Thank you Maureen.

I wonder if Clifton was formally an area within Holmfirth. I have checked on the internet and Holmfirth is in Yorkshire. all of these things were often confused by the enumerators entry.

You definitely both have the right person. As you say I need to view the marriage certificate.

In 1891 census she says born Clifton:

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 9 Jul 2013 01:18

If she was born in Holmfirth why would she say on the census that she was born in Clifton?

The York registration district on the birth above would cover Clifton.

However if the the tree on Ancestry is correct then this could be a birth at the right time in Holmfirth:-

Name: HAIGH, Hannah
Registration district: Huddersfield
County: Yorkshire
Year of registration: 1853
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume no: 9A
Page no: 237

Personally I would go with the York birth, but first of all I would buy the marriage certificate. It is definitely in the index for 1887, so if they have the date wrong in the Ancestry tree then other things may also be wrong.
