Particularly reference to Kentspear which is what my mum kept saying was her great grandmothers surname and she insists that she came from Brittany. Thankyou so much that really is very helpful. Can I ask how you came to put in that information? Seemed not quite to follow thread!

Poor Mum she'll be disappointed though I have to say they still look Breton! Thank you for all your help. You've given me so much useful information about how to pursue this.

There is a summary transcription of Mary Jane's marriage to Moses Cardy on FamilySearch https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KCTP-KYW Kentspear and variations such as Kentsbeer seem to have been around in Devon for a long while, but it is across the Channel from Brittany so who knows ........
