Christina(Lancashire)

Christina(Lancashire) Report 15 Aug 2013 16:01

Trying to find more on the ancestors of Ann Bury (Berry). Have her baptism. Please see last post.

I can find no other mention of Abram Eckersley who was 3 days old on the 1841 census posted by Kath below.

No baptism, death, nothing on the 1851 census index.

Please will someone check the image to see if his name has been mistranscribed?

Please will someone give me the details for Timothy Eckersley b 1775 in Lancashire, possibly Bolton, in the 1851 census.

He married Mary Cowburn in 1803, but not sure she will still be living as the entry for Timothy on the index does not show a parent or spouse name.

Thanks for looking.

Thank you George. Both still living, that's a bonus. Off to look for possible deaths now. :-)

Christina(Lancashire)

Christina(Lancashire) Report 15 Aug 2013 16:37

Found possible deaths for Mary & Timothy aged 76 & 84 respectively.

I see there is a large age gap between Timothy's grandchildren Timothy b 1837 & Martha b 1846.

Please will you see if you can find the family on the 1841 census to see if there were any other children?

OR...

if Abram was an illegitimate grandson his mother may have married and changed his surname

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 15 Aug 2013 18:22

Yes, Christina, Abram's name is correct.

Just for interest -
the 1841 has lots of mistakes in Ancestry's transcription!
Timothy, Mary, & John have been missed out, and it says Abram's 3 months old, when the image clearly says 3 days.

Thank you Mike & ArgyllGran. Shame the 1841 didn't record relationships. It looked as though he was William & Ann's child. If he wasn't, then he was very young, at 3 days old, to be away from his mother.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 15 Aug 2013 23:22

I'd also say that he was William and Ann's child. On the 1851 census there is a gap between the births of Timothy and Martha (when Abram was probably born and died).

I think the birth and death that Mike found look very promising.

Mike * Report 16 Aug 2013 00:28

Trouble is the boy Eckersley was born to a mother maiden name Eckersley so most likely unmarried.

Have found all the other births on Lancsbmd ( mother maiden name BERRY/BURY) so it's strange there is no entry for Abram.

William & Ann's marriage ?

Marriage: 6 Sep 1830 St Mary the Virgin, Blackburn, Lancashire, England
William Eckersley - (X), Whitesmith, Bachelor, this parish
Ann Bury - (X), Spinster, this parish
Witness: Joseph Fairbrother; Zachar'h Maudsley
Married by Banns by: J. Blackburne

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 16 Aug 2013 00:41

The Eckersley daughters were all too young to have had a child in 1841, so if he was illegitimate he could have been a nephew, or else the son of a neice.

Birth cert would give mother's first name, and allow further search.

Off the wall theory so bear with me.

Child is 3 days old so probably not yet registered.
What if they changed their minds about his name??

Was James, William's brother ?
and did his first wife die in childbirth ?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 16 Aug 2013 00:58

Pity! That was an appealing theory about Elijah!

What about James, Joseph and Oliver, also registered in Jun qr 1841?
Well, not Oliver - no sign of him having died before 1851 census.
But could be James or Joseph?

Interesting - biblical names seem to have been popular with Bolton Eckersleys.
Elijah, Isaac, Israel, Emanuel, Martha, Rachel, not to mention more common John, James, Peter, Joseph, Sarah.
