I have traced a Mary ATHOW marrying a John Wright in 1867 in Hackney, but haven't found any other details yet, but do you think this could be my Mary marring John, and being the parents of Alfred? :-\

safc, I think that the Sep 1869 birth would be too late as Alfred is shown as 2 in 1871 which indicates a birth late 1867 or early 1868.

No, or I wouldn't be here now! I am sure John now didn't marry a Mary Ann, but seemed to have married a Mary, but I haven't a clue when. It must have been after 1866 as that is when Susan Wright (Sandford) died, and Alfred was born in 1869.

Caroline, it does not look as if the marriage to Mary Ann is for your John. As you said it gives his father as John, a builder which is also John Jnr's occupation and he signs as John Wright Jnr, indicating that this John's father is actually John.

Did the family leave England as I can't find them after 1881

Going back to the marriage of John Wright, his second wife may NOT have been Mary Ann Hobbs. All I have been able to find out is that Mary who was his second wife and had a child called Alfred (born 1869) Mary was born abt 1828 in Criplesham in Norfolk, as picked up from the 1871/1881 census's, so would appreciate any help in her surname> I have hunted and hunted, but no luck yet! :-( :-(

John Wright wife (Susan Sandford) died in 1866.
John re-married to a Mary Ann Hobbs on 10th June 1868 and the marriage certificate says John was a batchelor and his father's name was John!!

Reggie: What's the IGI? Thank you for your 1851 census, that seems to be the right family. John was a Shoemaker when he married.

Dea: The witnesses on the marriage certificate were Richard William Sandford, William Lodge and Mary Ann Lodge. There is no address other than Warham All Saints.
