This is the only Audrey Lawrence marriage in Scotland 1940-60 - and nowhere near the border!:

1951 MILNE CHARLES
LAWRENCE AUDREY
ELLON /ABERDEEN 192/00 0027

Good luck with your further plod, Carol.

I'm inclined to think the Carlisle marriage listed by Patchem is more likely. Can not imagine there would be any connection with Lambeth. Will try and follow this lead. Nothing from any wills as Audreys father died suddenly in 1932 when she was only small and as far as I am aware her mother had no will. It would be great to have a birth cert, but as she was born in France it makes it a bit more difficult to obtain. The other possibility of a marriage in Scotland also possible as Brampton is very close to the border. Its like having a part of a jig saw missing but I will plod on.

There's only one Barry Irvine (or variation) birth in Scotland 1940-60, anf that's in 1953 - too late.
There are no Irvine (or variation)/ Lawrence marriages in Scotland in the same period.
Good thought, though!

Audrey might not have been pregnant at Andrew's wedding - depends on the exact dates of both. Both registered in Apr-Jun qr, but the birth could have been in March/April and the marriage in June, for instance. That's per Ancestry & FreeBMD - does any site give actual dates?

I'll try your suggestion re the "answered" post, Jude.

EDIT: No that doesn't work. I've deleted the post, but the thread's still marked "answered".

Argyll Gran - just a thought about the "answered" post - what would happen if you as the owner of the answered post, deleted it? Just a thought.....

My gran was an Irvine - it's a nightmare name if you are searching in Scotland :-)

If Audrey was born 1926, the 1940 marriage is too early, and we have been told she was not married by 1947, so that 1942 marriage no good either. And she would have been 16 or under. Unless some of the information wrong,

However, I do like that birth, but she would have been pregnant at the 1947 brother's wedding....

Which site does British births overseas, as I was having difficulties finding it when I tried previously - is it FMP?

Added:
Any chance he was Scottish, and the marriage was the other side of the border - and there might have been a different birth also???
Irvine is Scottish.....

ArgyllGran Report 25 Aug 2013 23:15

Do you, or any of your family, have a copy of Audrey's birth cert, Carol, to verify her name?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 25 Aug 2013 23:04

But I like that Carlisle birth better!

ADDED:
don't see a suitable marriage, though, unless this one:
Marriages Mar 1942 (>99%)

Irving John Lawrence Edmonton 3a 2480
Lawrence Jessie Irving Edmonton 3a 2480

Is it possible that Audrey was actually named Jessie, after the child who died as a baby???

Birth 1918, posted on page 1.
Death:
Deaths Sep 1919 (>99%)
Lawrence Jessie 0 Brampton 10b 525

Re your list of possibilities, Patchem -

1)
If Audrey was a middle name, and her husband's name was similar to Irvine, then the marriage Gins posted on page 1 could still be a contender:

Marriages Mar 1940
--------------------------------------------
Ingram Walter T Lawrence Lambeth 1d 721
Lawrence Mary A Ingram Lambeth 1d 721

particularly in conjunction with this birth mentioned a couple of times already:
Births Mar 1942 (>99%)
Ingram Barry T Lawrence Brentford 3a 572

2)
It doesn't look as if Barry was illegitimate, unless his birth was registered under his father's surname, as there are no Barry Lawrences with mms Lawrence anywhere around the right time-frame.

3)
Your final two points are valid possibilities. Michael must have been just a child himself when he was photographed with Barry, so may well have remembered the incident wrongly.

patchem Report 25 Aug 2013 22:52

?
Kenneth Barry Irving
Mother's Maiden Surname: Lawrence
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1947
Registration District: Carlisle
Inferred County: Cumbria
Page Number: M'78

But cannot see a marriage.

patchem Report 25 Aug 2013 22:44

If Audrey was born in 1926, and they returned to Brampton in 1929, she would have been about 3. So it is not that she would have had strong ties to France.

So:
Audrey might have been a middle name and so the marriage is of xxxx A Lawrence,
Audrey did not marry and child is illegitimate
Audrey married someone with surname similar to Irvine
Barry is a middle name
Michael is confusing Barry with someone else

Have you got any information from the wills of either parent, for names of beneficiaries?
Who was the informant on the death certificates of the parents?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 25 Aug 2013 14:14

I'm afraid it looks as if we have hit the same brick wall as you have, Carol.

If anyone has access to French records, that might be a straw to grasp at.

Carol Report 25 Aug 2013 10:21

Thankyou all for the information.I am aware of the first family from Williams marriage to Mary who was my great grandma. There were three children William(my granda) born in 1910 Winnie 1912 and Rachel 1914. My great granda William was in WW1 and invalided out in 1914 after the death of his first wife Mary he went to France with second wife Louisa around 1922 as he was given a job looking after the war graves as a gardener. John Andrew Fred and Audrey were all born there, they returned to Brampton around 1928/9.
The photo I have of Audrey was at the wedding of her brother Andrew in 1947 when he married Ann Armstrong in Newcastle. I was able to obtain this information from another person in the wedding party and has been verified. After that trace of Audrey has been difficult. Michael Lawrence who was Johns son told me he remembers Barry and being photographed with him in their grandmas garden in Brampton in the 1950s. It is from Michael I was given the name of Irvine for Audreys husband but I think the dates for Barrys birth are wrong and he may have been late 40s early 50s perhaps he was illigitamate but I have found nothing while searching births marriages and deaths. It is all a bit of a mystery.

ArgyllGran Report 25 Aug 2013 10:02

Carol -
You now believe the information re Barry was wrong. Does that mean that Barry was not Audrey's son - or that he wasn't born when you thought he was?

Unfortunately, we have very little to go on. You said you weren't aware of any other forename for Audrey. We can't find a marriage for an Audrey Lawrence to an Irvine (or variation) in the UK, at any time.

So either that's completely the wrong name for her husband, or she wasn't married to Barry's father, or perhaps she returned to France to marry.

So the 1911 I posted is the right family.........................

Carol......................

Please add ALL feedback on here............so everyone can see it.

Have you tried looking for a marriage yourself on freebmd?

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Did Audrey have a second forename?

Whose was the 1947 wedding?

patchem

patchem Report 25 Aug 2013 07:42

From pm received:
The other children were born in France. (Father looking after war graves)
Carol has been in contact with the other member, who was the source of her information about Barry.
She now believes this to be wrong as Audrey was at a family wedding around this time (photo, 1947) and she does not think she was married then.

Added:
Lawrences born in France from Carol's tree:

Audrey 1926
Frederick 1924
Andrew 1922
John 1921 (Annequen)

Added:
I think the War grave would be Annequin, but that is a very small cemetery, so looking after others also?

The two children from the previous marriage would appear to be
William 1910 Brampton
Winifred 1912 Brampton

Jessie's is the only Lawrence/Latimer birth anywhere in England/Wales

Where - and when - were the other children born?

Whose children were the half-siblings?

Unfortunately, Carol has marked the thread as answered, thinking she was saying she had answered a question I asked.

Judging by the thread below, there now seems to be no way to undo that:
