Hi all.

This is for my brother in law so I am hoping you can help me please?

Arthur David Gunner 1908 b Surrey he was a Roofer and married Ethel May Nash in 1929 26th Dec. His father was David Gunner a butcher but I can't find him on any census. I don't know where he was born or what year!!!!!!!!

Just to add that Father David was deceased at the time of the marriage.

Meant to say Arthur was called Archie by the family.

Did his mother remarry and he is under a new surname in 1911?

PH I think I have seen that on London marriages as thats where I got Butcher from.

I have his marriage but cannot find his father anywhere on the 1911 or Arthur David either.

NOT KNOWN AS ARCHIE as that was on the other side!!!! Sorry :-S

I'd take a guess that he was born before marriage and the father' name was made up?

Perhaps he was illegitimate, fostered out and given a different name which is why he can't be found in 1911?

But married under his real name.

Yes thats what I am thinking but there is an Emma Matilda Gunner dau of George Gunner who could be the mother who made up the fathers name. She was born 1886 in Surrey. The family is still in Surrey. George is a house painter.
