Thanks for that Jude but I can't. Maybe you will see soon when they go right over to the New Search all the time.

I now have no way to get into the old search. I was informed that it would not be available after a certain date by Ancestry.

Christina I noticed that too about the signatures. Did any of you read the reports on his papers. He seemed always to be absent with leave or drunk or late for roll call etc.Still he is not related really anyway and perhaps thats why it was'nt talked about in the family plus Emma Gunner having the children before marriage back in those days.

There's a similarity between the signatures of William Henry Wade on the military records, and the William Henry Wade who was a witness at Arthur David Gunner's marriage.

You can still use old search...for the mo. And you can still see the results displayed in the old way (if you don't like the beta tested new way)...again for the mo

This is what I mean about the blimmin New Search. I could never find anything on it when I tried it when it first came out and so always went to the Old Search but now they have taken the old search away.

In New Search type in Military Records search 'William Henry Wade' and nothing else. He is the 10th one down (British Army WW1 Service records) - Residence shown as - 71 Stra??, West??

There is knowhere to put the reg number on the new search. What year was he born please?

I can't find it on Ancestry Choccy.

I can't get my head round this new serch. I always used the old Search but now we hav'nt got it.

Aha a tree on Ancestry had three children for Emma Matilda Dorothy 1901 Albert Edward 1904 and another one I can't remember at the mo. On Alberts marriage he has his father as Albert Edward Gunner a Butcher Deceased. Alert Edward was also a Tiler which seems a bit of a coinsidence because so was Arthur David. It gets so muddled.

My BIL had someone call at his house and say he had rellies he did'nt know of.

I must talk to him again and see if we can get anymore info. They are on hols at the mo.

Yes thats what I am thinking but there is an Emma Matilda Gunner dau of George Gunner who could be the mother who made up the fathers name. She was born 1886 in Surrey. The family is still in Surrey. George is a house painter.

I'm back..........................all shut in chickens and bantams and hogs fed.

Perhaps he was illegitimate, fostered out and given a different name which is why he can't be found in 1911?

But married under his real name.

I'd take a guess that he was born before marriage and the father' name was made up?
