Polly is usually the nickname for Mary Ann, but I have come across a Sarah Ann who was called Polly. |

Really sorry about this folks I'm getting very confused with what I've found and not found. I was concentrating on Ashton. I found a William E Lee reg 1908 in Ashton, mothers name Bertha Lee. When I got cert she was Lee (nee Bramall). On looking at the cert again THIS is the one that died in 1909 so I scrapped that line of enquiry. |

I didn't know about the Polly - Sarah Ann connection. That sheds a whole new light on it. There are 2 possibles I can find on the 1911 census. One household has Mark as the head with 2 single daughters Sarah Ann and Lydia (Lydia being witness on marraige cert). The other is William Lee as the head with Mary Ann as his wife, Bertha & Sarah Ann as single daughters. (Maybe family tradition got the Grandma & Aunt the wrong way round?). This lead would be amazing as my husbands family comes from Rangoon and lived in Bombay and the head of this household was born in Bombay! |

I know this is speculation, but lookng at the possible India connection I've come across a Frederick Wm Lee, born in India staying with his cousin in the 1871 census. The family live in Taunton! |
