Joanne - I did check on some stuff relating to Beryl and George. It seems likely you know some of what I've found, so I'll not post it - I'll send my notes by pm.

I did find some trees on Mundia relating to your George - it's hard for an outsider to verify as Ontario has a 97/82/70 y closure on B/M/Ds (strictly speaking, Ds are not closed, but no index is published for 70y).

There are some tress on Mundia:

I am just guessing that these pics are of your George and most of his brothers - however, since George had 2 uncles living in Brantford, so some might be cousins.

Have pm'd 'possible' children, as they are most likely still alive.

That is great info. thanks.

Is there anyway to find out if they had children?

They had a pub in Leicester for a long time when I was a child, I know there was a son as he was always helping out.

Flip the marriage is (I think) the one I referred to above in Q3 1945 - Margaret E Richardson and William G Yates. It's in Barrow on Soar in Leicestershire.

Hi Joanne,

There's a 100 year closure on census records, so the latest available is 1911.

The only other way is to find someone close to the local records office who's willing to look them up on the electoral rolls - but these are not indexed by name, you need an address.

I'm not seeing a marriage between Gordon Yates and a Richardson that could match your info though - are you sure you've remebered the names right?

Potty

Potty Report 7 Oct 2013 12:36

The most recent census available is the 1911 - the 1921 won't be available until 2021.

You say Evelyn witnessed your baptism, presumably as Richardson, so if she married it would have been after that date which will give some parameters for searching for her marriage or possibly her death.

Joanne Report 7 Oct 2013 12:10

I do know a little about the Canadians as a cousin visited.

I would still love any info. on the other two sisters as I know at least one of them had children, who may still be alive.

I will as Patchem. suggests put them into a tree but someone did warn me off trusting all info in trees? Without fully researching to check info.

If I know that Margaret Richardson, married Gordon Yates and lived at a pub in Leicester about 50 yrs ago, where would be a good place to look for a census record. I remember visiting the pub when I was a child - so def. about 50 years ago.

The pub may have been called 'The Duke of York'
thank you

I am saving all this and will look into it more after my hol. this week. Once again thanks.

UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960 about Beryl Reansbury

Gender: Female
Age: 22
Birth Date: abt 1924
Departure Date: 30 Mar 1946
Port of Departure: Southampton, England
Destination Port: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Ship Name: Ile De France
Search Ship Database: Search the 'Ile De France' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database

She was travelling alone - a housewife, in fact the whole page of the travel record is taken up with housewives travelling on their own which makes me think that the husbands were probably Canadian and they were being taken over there to join them?

Do you know if her husband was Canadian?

I can see no record, as yet, of her returning to U.K.

Her UK address had been 96 Seagrave Rd., Sileby, Leicestershire.

Have you looked to see if any of your family are in trees on here or on ancestry?

And have you put them into your tree on here?

Margaret's marriage - I think is on Freebmd - q3 1945. Gordon - is I assume - a middle name. Without having any idea of who they married, the names are far too common to be guessing

I am trying to look up my father's sisters marriages.

I have tired the suggested BDM free site but with no luck.

Father was Gordon Frederick Richardson DOB 1922
Spouse C shephard DOB
They lived in Portsmouth

His sisters were Joan DOB 1924
Margaret E (Peggy) DOB 1925
Beryl DOB 1923

As far as I remember as a child. Joan emigrated to South Africa, but came back I think?

Peggy as I knew her married Gordon Yates and owned or managed a pub in Leicestershire.

Beryl married and moved to Canada.

I would love to know who they married and what children they had so that I can contact them?

The only family I do know are the ones in Canada.

Thank you, anything would be a help. I did try the free BDM for the three sisters but found nothing.

Hi thanks for new replies, I really appreciate it.

Yes very new and very keen. But today work early to late and again tomorrow.
Then I am on hol. for a week so hope to do much more on my return and would love to carry on with these chats.

Flip I have mainly been using Ancestry co.uk and a bit on this site.
I will look more at the free site on my return.

Joanne, what site are you searching on? - the parents marriage and births for your father and his sisters all show up on the freebmd site. To find the birth regs just put Richardson in surname box and Shepherd in the spouse/mother surname box. Then select say 1918 to 1930 and all 4 births will be there.

"I wonder if the Margaret E. If the E stands for Evelyne as I thought he called a sister Lyne and Evelyne Richardson witnessed my Baptism. I also have peen trying to find Peggy and I think that was Beryl. It is such hard work when so many of them used their second names"

Peggy is most likely Margaret.

Hi yes he was in the RAF his no. is listed at the top of this thread. Where would I go to look for a marriage overseas? To be honest I am not having much luck looking for anything.

I cannot understand if I have his sisters names and DOB and parents why they do not come up in searches?
